GODS GONE WILD might indeed never have made it past the planning stages without the love, care and concern of my partner in rhyme Meghan Brown. Our relationship demonstrated the self-evident truth that human contact is the natural fount of all creative endeavor. Nested amidst the comforts of home and sympathy

toasty and comfy and wanting for nought

HBO and SHOWTIME morning, noon, and night

with baked lobster and jumbo fried shrimp

all you can eat between baked potatoes and loaves

of french bread and family feeling your pain

while you feel the need in them for harmony in the home

where feet and toes can rub against each other

in a warm bed on a full stomach beneath handsome

blankets of bright colors next to a fully racked wardrobe

Somewhat too close for true comfort the binding

agent requires elements of self denial and sacrifice

to the whole so that all the parts function organically

no joke how disagreeably in attitude, emotional

sensation and spatial proximity this huddling together

of oppressed and exploited souls proves to be and while

better methods must exist outside the enforced forms

now dictating Hard Times and shared struggles towards

a mountain top that keeps disappearing in the clouds

one can see a mansion of imagination built out of sympathy

MARKETS FOR MADNESS

Pain always sells best on the Open Market

buttered up and basted in Sex

many find it a tasty treat for the senses

along with popcorn and hot dogs and

it makes serial killing and gothic sexual offense

the fastest and the surest route to take

in order to secure for one’s self instant celebrity

No one can say for sure why human tastes

run this way to such entertainments

of mind and soul or why viewing armed conflict

baited with the threat of death proves

such a hook for the attentions and intelligences

of humanity in the mainstream of things but

the bottom line is there is money to be made here

Nothing can match the profit margin generated

when obsolete armaments are sold wholesale

to Third World Countries and this includes even

Alphabets for the Blind and Klondike Bars

and Coca Cola by the case load since only Bibles

and boxcars of prostitutes graded and stamped

for transit sell better in the markets of madness

TROPHY SHOP

No one thought this collection of conquests would be so telling

upon the character of his majesty or become so extensive

what with everyone yearning for that top shelf experience-no-

that one over there-that’s it!-and so willing to sacrifice

their character and dignity for a slice of the forbidden cherry pie

When visitors walked through the halls of the museum

and regarded the towering statuary of voluptuous women

whose lives were shattered when the spoon stirred them up in

the potent but explosive cocktail of the fame game none considered

the scope of the tragedy it took to get them upon these pedestals

Meandering past the oil paintings and various other works

rendering in the real and the abstract the triumphs and tribulations

of seething minds and injured parties trapped no differently than

butterflies between the gesso and the brown ocher and cadmium blue

strife reveals itself distilled into globs and masses of form for the curious onlooker

The framed caricatures lining the high walls of the mezzanine

some executed in pen and ink and others as glowing or dull

pastels smile down upon us in black and white amusement as a final

tribute to kitsch and as well the spoils of the conquerors who

meditate upon what heads and hides to put next inside their Trophy Shop

ALONE AND TOGETHER

There are times when you must stand alone

and times when you must stand together

with the rest of the folks for what is right

knowing the difference between these events

can spell success for you instead of disaster

Being alone is an affair that comes to us all

and facing it head on is best in any case

with an eye towards acquiring valuable goods

that can be conveniently stored up towards the future

Hanging together with others in a common cause

can be a great way to know the Almighty

and to feel the good that comes from brotherhood

while you become a link in the living chain that forges

itself into infinity as the religious experience of being human

Always the most important thing to do in any fashioned event

is to express yourself as honestly and as best you can

and hold with no one and nothing that will have you betray your soul

and consider yourself a friend and ally to anyone defending

the values you hold dear even when you find yourself alone and together
