Observed Dream Movement - J. Munro Jr.
CHAPTER ONE
Of Genealogy, Childhood Development
Pre-Grad Education and Young Adult Mania
A SCOTTISH DESCENDANT
Highland shadows tell of forefathers hell
Tree of ingenuity spreading it’s germ
Wind from kilts fallen their folklore will be
Their blood and name in honor-
Passed on to me,
His ancestors bled mountain Foulis
Plaid crests decayed in cold dreary bog
Braveheart warriors through Isle In The Sky they roam
These fearless highland shadows
Protect descendants home,
From Celtic grounds their souls resound
Ancestral clan Dread-God Immortal
Bagpipes Gaelic in praise of Scottish birth
Proud his noble heritage
Stoic castle
Crown of firth,
Highland shadows of forefathers tell
Tree of ingenuity spreading it’s germ
With his final breath-
Then pure heart freed
His blood and name in honor-
Passed on to me.
Dedicated to my father, Dr. James Stewart Munro, PhD, who with unwavering determination and diligence worked to overcome the adversities of a broken childhood. Who as an imperfect being dedicated his life to learning, teaching, and supporting his family in better ways than what he knew.
BOY IN PEW WITH MOTHER
Church bells glorified Sunday morning game
Arched between stained glass baselines
High fly saints inspired play,
The Altar Boy in batter’s box, whiffed the Sermon
Pitch, infield worshipers in pew
Praised God with home run sway,
Vendors walked the isle professing their belief
The soprano sang hymns
From the bleachers for relief
Behind holy plate the priest knew what to say,
The choir stood on deck
I then knelt down to pray;
Please O’ Lord, hear my prayer,
Help my Tigers beat the Twins
Please bless my entire family
Protect us from foul ball sins,
Please O’ Lord I beg of you
Keep me safe in the strike out zone
Don’t let me choke on the host from communion
Let me triple the offering thrown,
Please O’ Lord just one more thing
Don’t give pick off sign of the cross to Mother
Bless me when I genuflect
Help me sneak home without little brother.
This poem is based on wonderful memories with Patricia Grace Cuddy-Munro, my mother. She has dedicated her life to her faith and to her family without compromise. She is one of the most strong-willed and open-minded people I have ever known. Without complaint, with the motivation of a tireless saint, she dressed, prepared, and took five unruly young children to church EVERY SUNDAY. Until we reached the age of rebellion. Which she understood. At the age of 90 she still goes to church EVERY SUNDAY.
SUPPRESSED FEELINGS
Insanity ultimately resonates
Translucent normalcy
detached
Umbilical cord unraveling, suddenly cordless
Oh thank God we are all attached,
Convulsing pretenders disrupt sleep
Morning ejaculation perpetuates
Self loathing
Rushing emotions-my spineless predator undulates,
Subconscious toxins ferment
Slowly drowning eyes overwhelmed by Truth
Impurities poisonous from ectopic
Childhood
Melancholy cultivates the obtuse vigil.
HIGH STRUNG
As an unrelenting deluge
My consciousness expands
From the depths of my spine
Screaming expletives command,
Past the restraints of relativity
Through the icy straits of time
To an incomprehensible plane
Elusive like the perfect crime,
I approach the impending cataclysm
Lonely hearts flutter
The wheel of Karma turns
Brash transmissions sputter,
Under crescent dusk
Half moon shining
Shadow and mist theater
My sanity unwinding,
Insecure uncontrolled reveille
Paralyzing mental congestion
High strung gear wheel machinery working
The sound of silence-clandestine.
JOLT
Throat sloughing tectonic seizure
Seismic vulgarity across
Hemispheres Neuro-tsunamis
Reach nirvana
Cataclysmic signals ignite once calm
Suppressed raw paranoia
Irradiating madness
Non-reflective space
Warped
Lost time
Black-whole
CONCUSSION
A dazed vessel leaves tentacles
Galvanized deep unconscious glare
Loose filaments penetrate unexposed clusters
Of the lunatic virus
Endorphins beware,
Ferocious
Faceless
Confused
Yesterday parched in gray matter circus
Voices muddled like Mad Hatter spin
Calliopes awaken the latitude of uncouth Overlord,
The empire of grand swirling hysterics.
THE MASTERPIECE DWELLING
Impressionists’ magnum opus depicts necrophiliac amour
Pale copulation with cold porcelain cracks
Cocaine comedy a Cubist’s tragic display
Drag queens mimic The Black Swan Ballet,
Burlesque figurines en vogue improvisation
Baroque envy favors museum décor
Gold diggers rehearse in opera-like brothels
Sculptured faces of idolatry aged-like erosion,
Standing on beliefs entombed like fossils
Medieval lyres dampen musical rings of smoke,
In literary winds volcanic podiums reverberate
In plumes of mythology ruined Athenians choke,
Rome’s sprawling legend, a stone mural crumbling
Golden Hieroglyphs stitch the here to Hereafter
Bizarre innuendo inspires uninhibited art
Walnut ruffles strewn across backyard genre
Metaphor incognito-perfect
Anomaly from creation-
Within
PROFOUND QUESTION
Ideas travel unknown miles
Contradiction surveys cognitive halls,
Hypotheses create cerebral deviation
Kinetic energy connects subdural walls,
Adrift pondering nature unsolved equation
Arctic deltas question integral reserve
From colder infinity broadband enigmas predominate
Intricate theories anticipate
Hoping answers irrefutably articulate-
The profound.
SPRING VACATION
Dreams and schemes kaleidoscope of sound
Musical notes trickling down
From the mouth of the flutists metallic river
Above sprouting marquee below indigo plateau
Winter’s melting trails beckon
Crude Sun God jesters cajole
The glorious spring migration like wildebeest of the Serengeti,
No how bout-like once upon a time:
The Daytona Beach rhapsody a grand chaotic
