    INTRODUCTION

In my book I try to keep my thoughts simple so that a child can understand them, yet I allow adults to get into the substance of the words. Also, I have included at the end of each passage an attempt to convey what each passage means to me. However, I don’t have the final say; you do. Whatever my words convey, express, or provoke in you is right. I just want to stimulate and provoke thought within you, the reader.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:

Thank you first and foremost to God and the wonderful woman who gave me life by His grace, my mother. Mom, I love you.

Second, to the mother of my children, Tracy M. Lane. Peaches, thank you for my greatest gift, my sons, Tre’Rome and Der’Mani.

Third, to my brother, Kevin Gadsden; right and wrong you’re there with me. To my family, Glenn, Carla, Karen, and my aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Fourth, to my friends, without whose help this book would not have been possible: Iran Reynolds, Sharon Proctor, Debra Ann Wells, David Bullock, Leroy Jace Jenkins (may he rest in peace), Donald Brown, Wildman, Ice, Jeffery Thomas, Elaine Young, Sabrae Hilliard, Tyrone Madness Shop Johnson, T. Pop Lampkins, M. Hill-Bey, Cozette Ashe Jackson, Cathy, Bruce Davis Rush, Monic Kennard, C. Bey Boy Clements, Barry Hund Coleman, Joe Murphy, Thurman, Chris Merriweather, Reuben Richardson, Michael Brandon, Bryant Locksley, Thomas Ambulance Clipper, Jim Sheay, and Daren Go Go Gadsden. Thank you one and all.

If I have forgotten anyone, blame my mind, not my heart.

    Special Thanks to

    THE   JOURNEY  BEGINS. . .

    THE DAY AMERICA CRIED

    Tuesday, September 11, 2001

America cried, like an infant just being born. She was smacked as America’s worst fears came to fruition; mentally, physically, emotionally, and economically, America was devastated. America’s children fearful, America’s officials outraged, society’s tears spilling all over this great land. Dreams lost, innocence gone, hopes dash—and thousands dead! A sense of doom vibrates across the
