3610: THE OCCURRENCES is a collection of strange yet memorable events that I experienced as a young child, between the ages of approximately four (4) (1968) and seven (7) (1971), in the home in which I was born and raised. The events that happened during that period would be considered strange to many folks. I thought they were odd at the time, but after a bit of maturity and some relatively deep reflection, I believe that my family and I became unwilling participants in something that appeared to be mysteriously unreal and unbelievable. I now consider these occurrences as special, but they were often frightening and confusing to me at the time in which they happened. The events that I refer to can be classified as paranormal
— essentially the unexplainable. When something is unexplainable, it naturally gets categorized as the boogeyman
; when science falls short of a reasonable explanation, it becomes a phenomenon
; but only when reason doesn’t stand a chance, your heart opens, and then it becomes fact.
So, I have arrived at this moment with enough mustered-up courage to finally share with everyone these very otherworldly experiences. I find that I can do this now because the combination or trifecta related to time-passing maturity, accumulated knowledge, and lesson-learned wisdom—all the qualities that evade us as children—began its embrace. This arms me with the necessary comfort, confidence, and relief to actively ignore the judgment of those who don’t understand. I cannot judge. I know that these events personally happened to me, and they are as real as the ink on this paper. The events will be dismissed by many as bizarre, unbelievable, and the product of a mentally unstable adult embellishing upon a young child’s wild imagination. To others, the events will be intriguing, fascinating, and emotionally familiar. I submit to you that there appears to be a spiritual connection between the unknown or paranormal
world and Man’s spirituality, purpose, and awareness. My exposure to these occurrences has made me, in later years, ponder my own spiritual existence and place in this world as well as the universe.
I will tell you only those things that I know from my experiences. This is nonfiction. There isn’t time to provide speculation, which in my opinion would be fictional. This is but a thin slice of my own history that I thought to be significant enough to share, with family and friends, before my memory begins to fail and my inability to share makes me look like a feebleminded old man. Time is ticking away, and the seriousness of losing this precious commodity is more real each day.
I am not concerned about being judged, as I have found comfort and a sense of peace in pushing myself to tell about these very personal experiences. It’s therapy for me. Again, this is a slice of my brief history and experience that I share with you.
These are my stories, and they are real. Enjoy and ponder the possibilities of life and the immense potential of reality.
INTRODUCTION
AFTER MANY YEARS, I have come to the decision to share stories behind some extremely strange occurrences and events that have resided in my conscious and subconscious each day of my life. This won’t be the first time I’ve shared these stories; it’s just that I was careful about verbally sharing them with friends and acquaintances, so as not to appear to sound like I’d lost my mind. So, they have been told in a piecemeal, protective manner, and not delivered in one comprehensive story.
It is the subconscious aspect of these stories—the somewhat broken and dispersed pieces—that have haunted me, and I have tried to tie together and resolve
