About this ebook

The author now offers you Freedom Beyond the Labyrinth so that you can finally remove the mask of agony you have been wearing while reinventing the white mans world and the ideas of white men so that you may depart the sights in the cave and take a permanent step forward. Beyond the worship of shadows and a specter between two worlds, you will be invited to peruse a short history in degradation that hopefully will bring you beyond imagination and the flight of the undead to a place, where dignity surfaces into focus, and you experience a breakthrough to paradise. We expect you will find there is more to life than the dynamo of hell or even the heaven complex and in the land beyond gods and goddesses and past the sirens of doom lies sudden life in blood time for super soul as victory comes knocking with world series values for masters of freedom while they picnic in the clouds. There will be plenty of time to smell the classic ghetto roses while you carry your edition of the Latest Earth Times Review back to the Mountains of the Muse, where I hear what goes around flips the script to the ideas of black men as we return you now to Ben Franklin and Divine Right.

    DEDICATION

The author is well aware that even this third time around he is bound to omit mentioning some of those who played a fundamental role in helping him forge the work that it is now your privilege to peruse and enjoy. But he finds it his duty to at least attempt to settle the account with those who have loved and supported him through an arduous process that must have often appeared to be futile, painful and thankless.

BEN FRANKLIN AND DIVINE RIGHT is now a matter of document because there was this young nymph with a silver voice who possessed the courage to kindle the fires of inspiration for a fellow storyteller by whatever means necessary. That our relationship resulted in the creative and constructive entertainment that is now available to you is now a matter of record and beyond dispute. So once again I thank my friend Meghan Brown for interfacing long enough with my misadventures to help me produce something of enduring value.

Later, there will be more to say about the vagaries concerning the free expression of original thought and its opponents who chant there is nothing new under the Sun beyond the recycled excreta of tragedy to be borne by all. The echo of their shrill voices fade in the distance as I thank Mary and Irene Waller for all they gave me to urge me on in my journey. I would also like to thank Arthur Hopkins who in my youth brainstormed with me at Lou’s Delicatessen across from Marygrove College on Six Mile. Back then we were still brash and cocky enough to believe we would make our millions by and by and rule the world. I would like to thank also Pierre Rener, Ron Milner and Gilda Snowden for setting the example of what it means for an artist to be responsible to his or her community. A lesson that at first flew right past the blind spot of a vainglorious young novelist and playwright stewing to erupt out of his own angst into riches and renown.

Nowadays this is no longer about advantages of wealth or prestige as those aspirations have long since flashed by in the rear view mirror of Life. The men and women I mentioned above are no longer with us to take joy or celebrate anything I may have accomplished at this late stage. But there will come another time.

Overcoming your own ignorance and blindness can be as wild and wooly as an Indiana Jones adventure and lately I have read that to become old and wise you first must work your way through being young and stupid. I am sure that when it comes to the latter my cup ‘runneth over’ and so hope and pray the former will prove to be a horn of plenty to all concerned past and present.

Therefore, let me get out of my own way and thank Judy Barnes, John Spivey, Andy Jackson, Stan Lee, Bill Kennedy, Perry Morris Jr., Gene Hall, Mike Murdock, Myron Maniece, James Wheeler, Dennis Galfey, Earl Davis, Larry Carter, Sterling Powell, Nadia Matreyava, Janelle, Adeila, and Pete Agar, along with Barbara Jean Luxford, Metha Buysman, and Monique Lucy Weberink.

I would also like to thank my brothers Terrance, Mark and Tim for all that we got into, along with my sister Joel, now a tycoon in the making. I would also like to thank my father and my mother, Eligah Senior and Mattye, along with my aunts Johnnie Mae Bunn and Ola Bell Johnson.

Lastly, I would like to thank Charles Birst of the Detroit Agency on Aging for delivering those very tasty Meals on Wheels to our home in a timely manner.

    Atmospheres

    Ever notice how

    Times fade one into another

    and Spaces shift between shores

leaving traveling emotions to pitch themselves

    through the windows

    while fugitive thoughts loop

    themselves through the revolving door

what you thought between the covers

    gets lost in the translation

when at last you land on the floor

    yesterday’s argument with death

    is only today’s deadly bore

    the joke of tomorrow

is at present a moment of serious note

do not bank the spiral pass

    for a touchdown just yet

gifted hands have been known to choke

many a jilted suitor has lost

    that piece of his mind

when the doorbell rang him into the zone

and wished he was in that other place

known only to E.T. when he finally phoned home

    Babes And Brainstorms

No matter the weapons of creation

    pen, camera, easel, keyboard,

    the brightest meteor showers

find their way through the conduit

of endeavor expanding and widening beauty

and spray the sky with pulses

of shimmer swirling in the heart

    Scented smiles and eyes flickering

    like jewels in the dark

make an impression on the neural net

    better than the fireworks exploding

on the barges of the Detroit River

    sailing away to Bob-Lo Island

and making the roundtrip to Belle Isle

    Glowing clouds of light thrust

    their hands through the sleeves

of a new harvest quickening to the will

and the joy of a spirit erupting

in its own fecundity and bristling

in the electrical bursts of new ideas

flowing honey out of the womb of the Babe

just a little speed is all you really need
