Nishi is a third generation South African who grew up during the apartheid and witnessed the liberation of her country from the grasp of oppression, Awakening is a sampling of the beginnings of a poet. Author Nishi B. Jumna is opening up to creative expression while she explores the impact her Indian heritage has on her life in South Africa and, now, in the United States.

Nishi Jumna

Nishi is a scholar of the healing sciences. In her practice, she has embraced both Eastern and Western approaches to healing. Her journey has taken her through a collage of life experiences which has brought her back home to the heart of healing, which she believes lies in spirituality. In Awakening, Nishi shares some of her experiences and how they have impacted her journey. She is a midwife and a psychiatric nurse who runs a holistic healing practice called Adi Shaktee. Nishi is currently, a practicing intensive care nurse and is working on completing a Masters in spiritual guidance. Nishi currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

It is often said that it takes a community to raise a child. Bringing a creative project such as this one to life is no different. It began with life events that moved me to transform and joyful memories that filled my heart with love and laughter. On this emotional continuum are many shades of emotions which color our lives and this book is a sampling of some of them. This journey began with the tender guidance and motivation of Brynn Saito, my creative writing instructor, who is a poet in her own right. Her encouragement sparked new avenues of exploration, which made me realize that there was more to me than I thought.
