About this ebook
Donald Bastedenbeck
Don Bastedenbeck is a songwriter and a poet. He began as a young teenager when he took up the guitar, an act the changed and helped shape his life. Today, nearly a half century later, he still returns to his roots for introspection and meditative purposes. His emotional journey is here, laid out for all to see, the good times and the bad, the joyful and the somber. These poems are not to evoke sympathy nor are they meant as an apology. They are written in hope to connect with others on a spiritual level, to be relatable. To him few things are more relevant.

In memory of my mom and dad, my creators, my mentors, the inspiration of so many facets of my life. You were my caregivers. You gave to your children so selflessly and you are the enrichment of my being.
To Linda, you are the fuel that energizes my blood, which keeps me alive. You are the excitement in my heart, my lifeline to eternity. How could I have made a better choice? Without you, there is no purpose.
To Hank, Raven, Kira and Erik, together you are the most important and sacred people in my life. Although we live a far distance apart, you are always in my presence. Every time my heart beats brings proof of our connection in this vast universe. I will always be there for you as your kindred spirit and your protector.
To my grand children and my great grand children, you are the future. You will carry our legacy into infinity. You could be world conquerors or the freedom riders against tyranny and oppression. Remember we all leave a foot print, be guided by your integrity and represent what your forefathers stood for.
To all my dear friends, you have made my life more substantial. You bring depth and distinction into my existence; I would be in darkness without you.
Within these pages are tiny droplets of my blood, sweat, and tears. These ‘vignettes’ are where I go to find joy and some solace. It is my hope that I can take you on this emotional rollercoaster and perhaps invoke you to squeeze out a tear, or better still, broaden a smile. If I can achieve even a small part of my goal, I’ve done my job.
