Majestic Timbers of Fall - Samantha Friello
Quest of the Butterfly
circling around your distraught being
is a delicate creature of love
intent on reclaiming your
lost innocence as you glimpse
him gesticulating up above
fluttering wings which aim
to delight, enchant, and please
for he will reverently perch
on your shoulder while hoping
to console you in this
desperate time of need
more than willing to abandon
a projected course in lieu of
being swept away by a wind's
high velocity and superlative force
for he is apt to be whisked away
by a strong current while eliciting
a pleading response from a cicada's
droning and buzzing discourse
Follow Him Anywhere
a desperate prayer
worth repeating
as you gravitate
towards a
supreme being
enveloped within
a halo of light
as he tempts you
to join him
in heavenly flight
captivated by an
angelic voice which
exuberantly sings
for he is the most
exquisite vision
you had ever seen
dipping his
gossamer wings
in a sad goodbye
for you would
follow him anywhere
to keep dwindling
hope alive
Sold Your Soul
celebrating a momentous victory
which is apparently not
as rewarding as it seems
for you have gradually attained
a token of your dedication
and hard work by accepting
a medal of excellence while being
driven by an insatiable greed
pompously accepting an accolade
of congratulations as you step up
to the microphone undeserving of
sugarcoated words placed upon thee
for while you were up there in
the spotlight a horrifying thought
has occurred making you question
exactly what it is you have
sold your soul to achieve
Out of Your League
deciding whether or not to make the first move
for you have been ogling the handsome chauffeur
hired to drive a sleek, stretch limo promising
to take you on a trip to the moon
purposefully intercepting a starlit night
as it whizzes by just to effortlessly pass through
for a beveled glass partition will continue
to exasperate while intending to
permanently separate both him and you
imagining what it would feel like to indulge
in a night of passion and jolly, good fun
for you yearn to whet your appetite
while hoping to be satisfied with not just anyone
hyperventilating as you crack a window
without asking your companions if they mind if you do
for you are apt to vacate your seat
while wondering if you hold any appeal
for a man guaranteed to have no interest in you
The Nag
welcoming you home
is an attractive
hunk of a man
failing to earn your
five-star approval
after diligently
vacuuming as quickly
and as efficiently
as he can
compiling a stack
of dirty dishes
to be washed in an
overflowing sink
for he will take
his sweet, old time
as you apprehensively
collapse upon a
reclining, leather seat
inquiring about your day
with a mischievous
glint in his eye
for you are apt to wonder
what he is thinking
after having come to
instinctively realize
a fool to believe
that he is capable of
carrying his own weight
for another mooch of a man
will lack the ability
to sympathize or understand
what it is you are
about to loathingly say
deciding whether or not
to nag him or mercilessly
throw him out
for a happy ending
to this long, arduous
