Rock Bottom - Khali Raymond
Poverty’s Player
See, in this system…
You’re considered a chess piece
Don’t believe me, well
Aren’t you in for a shocking revelation?
Shut your mouth, get that money out
When Uncle Sam says pay up, don’t give him recoil
Rise at five in the morn, shower and brush those teeth
Dress up, wolf two bananas with a bowl of Cheerios
and a glass of freshly pressed oranges to follow
Kiss your partner and children goodbye, hop into your newly
bought CLK to shout rudely at traffic for the next hour and a half
Arrive at the workplace
Duck and dodge rowdy coworkers gossiping about how off March Madness was
Smile at the boss you dislike while fixing them a cup of coffee
Return to the desk and reply to emails for an hour
Sit through meaningless meetings and draft reports
nowhere near their deadlines of completion
Rinse and repeat until seven in the evening, go home
Consume dinner, sip beer while catching the game
Rinse and repeat days like these for the next fifty years
until your body mass index is so disproportionate that it’ll
be a no-brainer to come down with some sort of
health aliment and be dead before seventy
see, society rather have you attend school for years
accrue thousands of dollars in debt
become a slave, unable to think for yourself
