About this ebook

Poetic revelations that take you on a journey with the author as he vacillates over a command from God imploring him to leave a six-figure management position at the height of his career. After obeying the command and allowing his employment contract to expire, his vociferous discourse with God escalates as he faces the mounting pressures that arise in the wake of unemployment. Each poetic revelation, short story, and parable spills onto the pages with an urgency to express the authors conflicted desire to stay the course of the spirit amid the growing pressures to concede to the practicality of daily living and the allure of the world. This book is the documented outcry of a man who comes to grips with his fear of losing everything in order to explore the essence of his true calling, and ultimately align himself with Gods will.

Mark Scott Mabrie

Mark Scott Mabrie graduated with a journalism degree from California State University Northridge. Although his focus was broadcast journalism, he also wrote for the university magazine and local radio show. As a student, Mark landed an internship with Channel 9 News and worked as a field reporter, interviewing notable sports heroes in Los Angeles. After graduating, he was hired as a per diem field reporter and continued to write and edit for the nightly sports program at the station. After becoming disenchanted with the rigidity of news writing and the internal politics of the station, Mark resigned from his position to pursue other interests. Dedication

This book is dedicated to my beloved Creator, the source of the silent space, the sun, the ocean, the miraculous, and all that is. Through Your omnipotence, I came into being. Through Your words of encouragement and Your presence, my revelations, parables, prayers, poems, affirmations, and our discourse came into being. Thank You for the constant flow of inspiration that travels through the riverbed of my soul. Continue to disrupt my sleep, even if it puts me under duress, for during my struggle and surrender, I am most awake.

    Foreword

Oft times, poets and writers can become too clever for their own good and for their readers’ own good, as well. Indeed, their mastery of the English language can dazzle us with its intellectual superiority and creative arrangements of word and rhyme. But a simpler and more effective expression of the truth can sometimes be sacrificed at the literary altar of ego and enigma. And it’s apparent from what I’ve just written that I, too, fall victim to the temptations of alphabet wizardry.

On the other hand, works that are oversimplified can run the risk of becoming mundane and uninteresting. Therefore, it is always refreshing to discover a new voice in the field of written transmissions, one that has found a balance between knowledge, imagination, and intuition, which is, after all, the nature of God’s advice. Mark Scott Mabrie’s collection of poems, motivational mantras, and words of heavenly reverence strike that balance with such ease and naturalness that I would assume they came from a much older and more experienced man if I didn’t already know him.

This collection can be appreciated simply by the eyes, like a beautiful sunset at dusk, which is always groovy and awe-inspiring. But to receive the deeper message that lies within this book, one must let these lines enter one’s heart and soul. For their creator ultimately wants to direct the readers’ attention and appreciation not toward himself, but toward the Creator of that beautiful sunset at dusk and all else that dwells within His infinite power and love.

    —Ahreek Marshall, Musician and Poet

    Prologue

It was the summer of 2002 when God spoke to me in my lowliness. In the process of being terminated from my job, I was also locked into buying a home that cost me double the amount of what I intended to pay.
