    Message to the Students

This book is designed to provide you with tools that will serve the purpose in helping you stay focused throughout your high school career, and as you prepare for college. I’ve been out of high school for almost ten years now, and I’ve seen too many generations make the same mistakes I did over, and over, and over again. If you’re asking why I’ve taken such an interest, it’s because you will run this country one day. You will also run the world one day. Therefore, it is important that you are well prepared to do so. Besides, I might still be alive when that happens and I would hate to live in chaos (not that it isn’t chaos right now).

Anyway, most people make high school out to be a big issue, and it is. During high school, everybody also makes college out to be a big issue, which it is. While it is important to consider college during high school, you have to keep in mind that in order to get to college you must complete high school. In order to complete high school, you must have a plan, some support, and a tool kit. That’s what this book is. You might not feel like you always have a tool kit because most of us who have graduated from high school have forgotten what it’s really like being a student. Also, times are constantly changing and sometimes parents just don’t understand. In this book I give you the guidance, support, and the tools to successfully make it through high school, and get into the college of your choice.

    Introduction

    Do you have questions like:

    • Why is high school so important?

    • How do I improve my grade in a class that I hate?

    • How do I get this teacher off my back?

    • What do I say when someone is trying to pressure me into something I don’t want to do?

If you do have questions like these, then let this book become your pocket guide to figuring out the answers. Even if you don’t have these questions, this pocket guide contains tips and secrets that will most definitely help you during this phase of your life.

Just by incorporating some of this book’s principles, you will find yourself attacking your problems or issues instead of running away from them. You will learn how to take initiative in changing yourself for the greater good, instead of finding an excuse. You will find yourself solving, conquering, negotiating, and relating your problems instead of dropping out of school or running away from home. The good habits you will develop from reading this book will pour over into your daily life without you even recognizing it. I call this the smooth transition phase. However, you will eventually recognize your growth. It is inevitable. Others will also recognize the positive changes you will make in your life, but more specifically in your everyday life decisions.

High school is supposed to be fun, not hard. The only reason it can be hard or harder for some students is simply because they lack the knowledge of how to make high school easy. Time flies when you’re having fun, and you’ll be out of high school before you know it, however, the key to flying through successfully is to have a plan. As you read this book it wouldn’t hurt to try and develop your own plan or agenda that will help you to stay focused. Remember, high school is different for everyone, but if you take advantage and incorporate just some of this book’s tips, you will have a better chance towards not only getting into the college of your choice, but graduating from the college of your choice with honors, and have a very fun and successful life.

    CHAPTER #1

    Deciding To GROW UP

In middle school you have responsibilities, but only to a certain extent because you still depend upon your parents. It’s not your fault; you haven’t fully developed, and you won’t be done developing when you enter high school. Despite this fact, once you begin high school you suddenly are expected to grow up. Feelings you never had about your sexuality will come up and bring new challenges and distractions. Your classes become harder because they are designed to prepare you for college. From now on every little mistake you make will be recorded and accounted for. This means that the longer you wait to face the reality that you’re growing up, the longer it’s going to take you to become successful.

The mistakes you make in your 9th grade year will be on your transcripts with all of the good things that you do in your senior year. So, college really starts in your 9th grade year of high school. Although, keep in mind you are human, so you will make mistakes. But, wouldn’t you rather colleges see more good than bad on your transcripts? I hope so! Wake up, this is your introduction to a whole new world. This means that YOU ARE NOW IN CHARGE OF YOUR FUTURE. The energy you put in is the energy you will receive back. So, what comes back to you may hurt or help you depending upon what you do. There’s no getting around it; when you reach the 9th grade you automatically get dubbed
