Introduction
I decided to write this book to help students achieve academic excellence. This book will most likely help those students ages 13-18 whether homeschooled or in a traditional school [public or private]. It is important to mention that some of my advice discussed in this book may be of some help to students ages 10-12 as well. This book is designed to be either read from start to finish, or to be read from any random chapter that suits your needs. However you read this book, the chapters are designed to stand alone, yet be interconnected at the same time. Although the chapters in this book are separate from each other, they are also intertwined and build upon each other. Whatever your situation is -- failing school or wanting to turn your average grades into a superstar rating -- this book provides tips to achieve academic excellence. I like to compare getting good grades to a magician pulling a rabbit out of the hat. We all know that magicians use basic techniques that they have practiced to pull off the trick. Getting good grades is very much like that. Once you develop a plan, practice certain skills, and focus just like a magician, the good grades start to come. Very few people are born with exceptional talent to score well in school without any effort. On the other hand, most of us can develop certain simple skills which will give us an edge in generating good marks.
In my own academic career, school never came easily to me. I had to work hard in order to achieve good grades. Because of my dedication to succeeding in school, I developed my own recipe for success. I can tell you that the tips you will read about in this book not only worked for me but really worked for my sister as well. My sister Stephanie achieved a rank of 11 out of 376 seniors at her high school in Pace, Florida. By seventeen, my sister was a student at the University of West Florida through a special Florida government program known as Dual Enrollment[1]; and went all the way to grad school in Houston, TX to become a clinical psychologist. Believe me, my sister is not a genius like Albert Einstein or Elon Musk, but she is a hard worker and has succeeded because of her dedication to academic excellence. If one of my tips inspires you to create your own academic strategy for getting good grades, then I have accomplished my goal.
If you are having difficulties in school and are thinking of dropping out I beg you to reconsider. You must never give up on school! Graduating from high school is key to your future. When you are struggling with low grades, it can seem impossible that you will ever improve. Never underestimate yourself, as everyone can produce great grades. In fact, I believe that as difficult as life may appear sometimes, making good grades is easier than you think. Apply my principles, and you will be amazed at how you will begin to power up. Without good grades, you will have difficulties in achieving your dream career. If you do improve your grades, you will increase your chances of getting a great paying job. If only one of my steps works in your favor, then I am glad that I wrote this book. Before I provide you with my tips for success, I must stress the importance of taking ownership of your academic career. Whether you "sink or swim", it is on you. If you can own up to your successes
