1. COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS

You’ll be tempted to compare other authors’ sales figures, reviews, likes, comments, shares, bestseller list status, and so on, to yours. But playing the comparison game will tend to either devastate your ego (if you don’t think you’re measuring up) or unnecessarily inflate it (if you look down on others).

Be warned, quitting it will be tough to do. Most of us have spent a lifetime playing it, ever since elementary school when we asked our classmates, “What’d you get?” when the teacher handed back the graded tests.
