This book is dedicated to those who are interested in learning about themselves and others through emotional intelligence and body language reading to master relationship-management and develop effective communication skills.

    Introduction

Communication, when done effectively, is a transactional process that involves listening and speaking. When speaking or hearing someone else speak, sometimes it is easy to become distracted or to forget to listen, and to show active listening, which is attending to the words and the accompanying emotions of the other person. Hearing someone speak is the auditory process of words and vibrations of the sound entering one’s ear, whereas listening to someone speak is the cognitive process of paying attention to such words to process their meaning. To listen actively and with the whole body is to not only pay close attention to that which is said, but also to that which is not said, the nonverbal communication, especially if preoccupied with thinking about one’s own next statement or point to make. Every body is talking. When interacting with others, their bodies are also communicating in their facial expressions, vocal tone and variation, body positions, and kinetics, or body movement. Thus, listening with the whole body also means to feel that which the other person is exuding and to take into context the environment or setting of the interaction. In this book, the power of communication in human contact is explored via emotional intelligence (EI) and body language (BL) reading.
