About this ebook
Benjamin Powell Jr
I grew up in a little fishing community in the summer months called Square Islands Labrador, in Canada's North Atlantic. When September rolled around we moved back inland 13 miles to a little place called Charlottetown. When there was a tree line and the weather conditions weren't as harsh as the barren coastline where Squares Islands was situated. I grew up fishing for cod as a boy and young man and in my early twenties I went to flying school and became a commercial pilot but l always had a love for poetry.

Islands Shore
Just to wake up in the morning, to the chirping sounds once-more, oh those little birds now singing just outside your cabin door
And the smell of salty ocean as you walked along the shore, are the memories I remember from my home in Labrador
And the motorboats all steaming from their fishing grounds again, as the gulls they keep on squawking for more liver and guts for them
And those calm and peaceful waters where the sound bones used to fall as you worked and toiled all evening after another codfish haul
And the fishing boats would come and the fishing boats would go, as you played with all your buddies just outside of ole Rum Cove
And the stage heads all lit up in the evening twilight glow, as the crews they worked and toiled with another cod trap load
But those times have changed forever you won’t see them anymore, just the way it used to be all along our scenic shore
Oh, the memories I remember and the love that I recall, from my days in ole Square Islands from spring to the early fall
From my days in ol Square Islands from spring to the early fall

Oh, Kuujjuaq Won’t You Take Me Back
A little small girl so friendly and free once played on the streets where home used to be, where the people were friendly and would talk to you about the polar bears and the caribou
Oh, Kuujjuaq won’t you take me back where the caribou call their habitat, where the polar bears still love to roam and the seals and otters still call their home
Where sealskin boots still can be seen and the northern lights are so serene, in Kuujjauk where my mind goes back
In Kuujjuaq where my mind goes back and to the caribou and their habitat, where polar-bears still love to roam and the seals and otters still call their home
And someday I’ll leave for home once more where I grew up on that northern shore
Where the people are friendly and they’ll talk to you about polar bears and the caribou, oh Kuujjuaq won’t you take me back
And someday I’ll leave for home once more where I grew on that northern shore, where people are friendly and they’ll talk to you about polar bears and the caribou
