    INTRODUCTION

    Teens have this devil may care attitude and that is the reason I named the book ‘Go to hell or come to me’. It sums up the attitude of the teen.

    Parents continue to treat teens as an extension of children whereas the teen expects the treatment to be an extension of the adult. This is the core of all maladies in this situation of flux.

    The consequences are:

    * suicide is the third leading cause for death among teens

    * 38.9% of our teens receive treatment for major and minor depression.

    Abandonment of traditional values, music and entertainment that shows violence as a virtue including gut exploding video games, easy availability of drugs and alcohol, increasing affluence due to both parents working and many more factors would be discussed ahead. A rounded approach would be taken to understand all aspects of the teen life.

    The point when the child shows her first strains of adulthood is one of shock for the parents. The subdued, all obedient, I will ask my mother kind of girl, suddenly breaks out of the family shell and tries to reach out into the world.

    The thing we need to remember is that our children grow and they are no longer children ; they are teenagers. But it is our inertia that keeps us in the state of belief that they are still children.
