About this ebook

"Can You Feel Me"? An emotional, sensual, reflective journey through life, love and the endless pursuit of happiness illustrated through poetry and prose. I began writing at the age of nine as the result of a difficult home life. Writing became an outlet of expressing the feelings and thoughts that no one wanted to hear, but that everyone at one time or another has felt.
I fell in love with the power of the written word after having to memorize the Langston Hughes poem "Dreams" in the third grade. I felt the truth in each phrase and the inspiration in each word to hold fast to dreams. I wrote and directed my first play Lets Kick the Statistics at the age of 15 and a second play "What Did He Do Wrong", an anthology of predominantly African American poetry and prose at the age of 18. Although, I took a hiatus from writing to start a family, it was always my desire, my dream, to one day write something that would touch the world, and make it cry tears of understanding. To influence the masses reflect on the ways they have felt or have made others feel.

This book is dedicated to 30 years of trying to get it right,

to the journey of life, love, liberty and the pursuit of my own happiness.

To the heart ache, the tears, and the joy I have found along the way.

To the lessons I’ve learned and the prices that I’ve paid.

To Kahlil, Lyric & Samyna; I could have no greater blessings than the three,

who are the sources of my strength, the anchors of my support, and my inspiration.

    I love you.

To all of those who truly believed in me,

perhaps supplied inspiration or inspired a theme.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

    Circles

    The light of enlightenment,

the life cycle, a circle, the perpetual journey of enlightenment and self-discovery.

You are born you live, you love and then you die...

Circles, life cycle, the explanation as to why we continue to do the same thing

    expecting different results.

Circles, spending our whole lives running around in them.

    Stupidity overriding common sense.

Leading with our hearts, instead of going with our first instincts.

    Ignoring the obvious red flags,

constantly making excuses to justify the

flaws and short comings of someone else.

I guess the bad thing about circles is that they are never ending.

    They continue forever.

Which is why the artifact symbolizing love in marriage is a wedding ring (a circle).

Because marriage is suppose to be forever

    never ending

    until
