E.E. Davidson
Born in Seattle, and raised in Michigan, she has travelled across America, learning to dream of wild things to write about as she explored and experienced life. E.E. Davidson decided to become a published author at the age of twenty four. Having been a writer her whole life, her mission is to share her stories with the world and spark the imagination in new generations, and revive it in the seasoned generations that have become too aquainted with the ways of the world, having almost forgotten what it was like to be a child who explored invented worlds far beyond their own, and the innocence in doing so; mainly to encourage everyone to live, laugh, and love, and dwell in positive energy. Currently living in Yosemite National Park, E.E. Davidson, a naturalist, has hands on experience with the natural world like the characters in her book. Having the courage to finally follow her dreams, E.E. Davidson is now the author of four books, three coming soon, and three that are works in progress in her seven book series. Firmly believing in pursuing dreams, she says: “Whether success or failure, do not be afraid to face the world, for the world surely will not be afraid to face you.”

The Princes Concubine;
Past Embracing Present
THE GRANDEUR OF the stronghold looked beautiful, especially in the light of the setting sun, as clouds formed the evening silhouette in hues of orange, and yellow across the early evening sky. Lord Demetri approached the gate feeling well spent from his day and a half hike. It hurt to leave his son behind all alone to face the ever changing world, not knowing what he may have to go through, without help, especially without his pater. Knowing that he could only do so much, the nobleman tried not to be too critical about not having fought harder to be there for them when the two of them grew up. Those happenings where not at all in his hands, for he could not even control his own fate.
Hoping that the news he would receive about the time that he had been gone was indeed good, lord Demetri shuffled up to the white gates slowly. It was a relief to finally be back. The guards of the citadel recognized him, and immediately opened the path to let him pass.
Just as he approached the steps to the entrance of the bastion, it began to lightly rain, even though there were not many clouds in sight. It was refreshing to him, for he had been hiking in the heat of the sun all the day long, and did thirst. Leaning his head back, lord Demetri spread his arms wide, and let the rain hit his smiling face as it sprinkled, causing a greyish tint to the distant horizon that steamed humidity to the right of the turret.
Vedalvi stood in the doorway after the guards had opened the door, and welcomed lord Demetri, offering to prepare him food, clean clothing, as well as a warm bath. Seemingly less dry than usual, the manservant catered with a slight smile, and facial expressions that made encountering him more pleasant, and inviting. Lord Demetri pondered why there was such a sudden change in his behavior, though it was brief when the heat of the candles began to warm his cheeks, and the relief from the weight of his cloak, having been removed by the awkwardly grinning man maid, set in. He began to relax, for he had much on his mind, and was more anxious than usual. Although it was not particularly easy to forget what he had just come away from, he knew that his nerves would not get any better if he did not put the thoughts of family away for a short while. His thoughts were rapid as he strained for his mind to be quiet.
Luckily, for the exhausted lord, Vedalvi interrupted.
My lord, Atenda and the king’s that dwell in the palace desire to meet with you at some point during the night. I suppose they have much news to inform you of concerning many things that have happened as of late.
Vedalvi said vaguely to the tired lord as he ushered him into the dark room.
The lights were out, all of them, which seemed very unusual, for they were always lit for guests.
Forgive me lord, for I have forgotten to light your candles. I must run and fetch them from the store room. One moment please. I beg of thee your pardon?
Vedalvi stammered nervously, quite profusely apologetic, bowing his head low in obeisance.
Yes, it’s alright. Be off then. I will stand here and wait.
Lord Demetri said forgivingly, welcoming the few moments he would have alone.
Thank you…
Vedalvi said forcing a smile, whisking away hurriedly in the opposite direction.
The tired man ran his fingers through his hair, and then wrapped his hand around the nape of his neck to massage the tension away. He sighed, looking around at the odd furniture shapes in the darkness of the chilly room, when his eyes landed upon a human like figure. The suspicious lord became rigid as he squinted to see.
Moment’s had barely passed before a light that was promptly lit revealed the shape more clearly in the back of the room. He gripped his sword, pulling it from its sheath.
Who goes there? Show yourself this instant!
Do not let your heart be troubled lord, I mean no harm to you…
A voice carried to his ears, though the shadow of the person that spoke did not move.
Do you dare rob the house of king’s? Come forth or I will have your head!
The man stepped toward the shadow as he threatened, and realized that it was a woman. When he discovered this, immediately, he drew back.
I do not intend to rob, nor have I, nor will I ever. Now please lord, lower your weapon. I have not come here to vex you. I do not wish to engage in any act that is ill. I only wish to talk with you.
The woman moved forward gently, though she still did not reveal her face.
Show yourself. You cannot lie to me… if I see your eyes. Who are you? What business do you have with me? I know you not.
Lord Demetri said as he tilted his head to see, trying to make out the face that hid behind the headdress in the shadows of the room, just beyond the dimly lit light.
Come closer, and I will allow you to unveil my identity, though you will not find beauty underneath my disguise.
The woman hinted, promising calmly.
Lord Demetri held his weapon lower but still prepared himself in case he needed to strike, still suspecting that the woman could be a witch waiting to cast her spell upon him. Stepping closer, he could see that the woman was not a young girl, nor very aged, but matured. The light flickered dimly as the two of them stepped closer to each other.
Remove your headdress, for I cannot identify you…
lord Demetri demanded calmly as he gripped his weapon.
I sense you still remain suspicious of me. You need not be, for I cannot see in the light nor dark, for it is only lit for your benefit. If I intended to harm you I would not have afforded you that luxury, but would have taken advantage of the darkness. You are much more of a threat than I. I carry no weapons.
The woman reassured that she would do nothing to harm him.
Lord Demetri let go of his weapon, letting it slide back into its encasing, and was at ease as he reached to remove the veil that hid the face of the woman that had been disguised behind it, waiting in his room to converse with him.
The veil slipped off of her face easily, as he tugged at it gently. What he discovered was far beyond what he had ever expected.
CHAPTER 2
Comfort At Last;
We Meet Again
THE MAN STEPPED back to have a better look at the woman he had unveiled, and was speechless for a moment as he struggled to find the words that would make his heart beat again, for it seemed to have momentarily stopped at the sight of her. He was in pure shock as he trodden back further still, for he felt that it was all a dream, an imagined image before him, and that he had officially lost his mind. The woman smiled softly as she stood still, beautiful in the candle light as it shinned warm hues of orange upon her pale face. All of the memories of her came flooding back into his mind. Barely able to think, choked up, he struggled, but managed to breathe her name.
Delilah… ?
Lord Demetri gasped.
Is it really you… unless my eyes fail me… can it be?
The tall man whispered in shock with his mouth agape as tears formed a whirlpool of emotion in his bold eyes.
It is I.
The woman whispered calmly, hoping that she could keep her composure, as she spread her arms inviting him to come forth.
He lunged forward, embracing her tightly, holding on as he sobbed bitterly. Minutes had gone by, and he still had not let her go.
Delilah squeezed him back, and sobbed into his chest as his arms wrapped tightly around her small frame, she, feeling an overwhelming sense of relief that he recognized her even with her unsightly scar, and after so long. When they had finally calmed, lord Demetri mustered up the strength to speak.
How have you escaped king Septimus’ keep?
The emotional man whispered inches from her face as he held her head close to his with his big, strong hands.
I had assistance, you see, our daughter was captured, and brought to the caverns as a prisoner.
Delilah quivered at the feeling of his grasp, for she had not felt it in so long that she hardly remembered what it felt like to be held passionately by such strong hands. She took a moment to pull herself together, for her heart beat so hard in her chest, she felt as though it would burst from inside. Lord Demetri kissed her softly on her forehead as he smiled gently at the astonished woman.
The king and his army went to overthrow, pillage, and burn… as many villages as they could. She and I met after I had stopped Gumgis before he attacked her in his fit of rage. I removed her from her prison cell, and took care of her, and began teaching her as time went on, about who she really is, and has been all along…
Delilah struggled to catch her breath to speak audibly, and then grabbed his hand and placed a tender kiss in his palm. Upon doing so, the nobleman caressed her hair, and smiled obligingly.
. . . we eventually devised a plan due to her persistence, for she truly believed that we could escape. Such an amazing young woman. I never supposed that she would be so… wonderful.
Delilah said choked up with tears
