Chapter one
AMY
image-placeholderMy unseeing eyes gazed at the empty land in front of me as the thought of my loss consumed my waking moments—Daemon is mine. It had taken several agonizing weeks for my full recovery and transformation, but it was well worth the wait—the price had been worth it.
I’d worked hard to get back to where I needed to be, and it pleased me to exceed my goal. Thanks to Abaddon, I came out better and stronger than before, and I’m now ready to reclaim what they took from me.
That dark, brooding, sexy man needed reminding of what I could do for him—of how I made his body sing.
My hands curled into a fist as my heart rate spiked.
I tensed at the thought of that seer bitch getting her claws on Daemon. I was sure he just needed a taste of what we had, and in no time, he would be back in my arms. What did he see in that tiny woman and her messy mop of hair? I will make them wish they had never tangled with me.
My lips twitched at the thought of adding Viktor, the burly Nephilim, to my collection. He could watch me, and Daemon put on a show, day and night.
You have been gazing out of that window for the past few hours.
I jerked my head around, startled to hear someone inside my room.
I didn’t hear you enter, my lord.
I sat up and lowered my gaze as I inclined my head to show Abaddon respect. Ever since I’d advanced to lieutenant, I no longer had to get up in greeting. We also had a ‘special’ relationship—he would call me to his room when he needed a specific release.
I was just thinking about my recovery and the recent changes you have made to me.
I turned my gaze back out the window towards the solitary dwarf tree in the middle of the barren land, which stretched as far as the eye could see. I’ve lost track of time since it was hard to distinguish if it was morning or afternoon here in the Underworld; the sun didn’t have the heat nor the brightness that Earth had. The sky always had a peach color, no matter what time of day it was, and the brightness lasted twelve hours. Then there was instant darkness.
I must have been sitting here for quite a while. Nighttime was almost upon us. Soon the three moons will rise, but just like the sun, they didn’t have the same brightness, nor did they orbit around; they just rose and shone from the same spot. If you were lucky enough and lived in the center of the apex of the moons, then you had light at night, but if you were at the edges of the Underworld, then it got pitch dark. It was where Demons, or aptly named creatures of the dark, lived.
I looked back and caught him studying me. I apologize, my lord.
I dropped my gaze as my heart sped up in fear.
Plotting Daemon’s return had preoccupied me and consumed my thoughts. I must do better, as Abaddon was known for his sudden change in temper. I didn’t mean to ignore him.
You may ease yourself, Amelia. I can hear your fluttering heart. I wouldn’t do anything to the only remaining circle member.
His black eyes hardened, and his jaw flexed in anger. You’re thinking about him, aren’t you?
I…
I hesitated since I didn’t want to admit any weakness to Abaddon. It wasn’t something you did, as it might cost you your life. I steeled my voice instead and said, I wanted to make them pay for what they have done to me, and I think the best way to do that is through their men.
I sneered.
He studied me for a moment, then bellowed a deep laugh. I love how you think. However, are you forgetting that he is now under the personal protection of the Savior? Are you ready to antagonize her and take her wrath?
My system flooded in fear at the recollection of how her energy seared my skin and the warning she had given me. I recalled how easily she took down the Dark One and the circle members who I was even fearful of. I shuddered and blocked out the torturous pain
