Intro
My veins stopped up, had a heart attack
I asked the doctor what we would do about that
They said we would fix it, whatever it takes
First thing we would do is operate
The neck came first to replace the vein
A piece broke off and went to my brain
Caused a stroke, lost my left arm
But it came back, didn’t do much harm
Six weeks later we did the rest
Four bypasses done after they opened my chest
The operation was smooth, didn’t hurt me at all
The doctors were great, made the right call
Now that its over and I’ve come home to heal
I can now admit its been an ordeal
Out of all the things that happen to me
Was the amazing thing I was permitted to see
That was my wife and the strength she had
She never looked worried or not even sad
I know she was now, its been said
But I never saw it, lying in bed
I could not have made it through this thing
Without the woman who wore my ring
And never left my side
With all the feelings she had to hide
Many times I’d open my eyes
To see her there was no surprise
Smiling wide to hide a tear
Some of happiness, some of fear
Everything I need she had there for
