Sonja
Sonja Plummer was born in Bethesda, Maryland. One of thirteen children, the love and support of her family has been a tremendous influence in her life. Her special joy is sharing poetry with family and friends, as it lends richness in expressing her thoughts and feelings. While growing up, Sonja started writing poetry. Her passion for writing really came to light when she returned to college. Her first collection of poems, “Piece by Piece Love Poems”, displays a picture of a sculpture she completed while attending college. The sculpture, called “Piece by Piece” represents the expressive aspects of an endless love and esteem that two people can share. Four additional books have followed; “Window A Poet’s Journey”, details the spectrum of life and, like her first book, has a cover photo of an art piece in another medium—this time, a painting Sonja completed several years ago, that expresses a journey we take through life. Sonja once again returned to the theme of love in “Is Love Enough?” In this collection, her cover photo portrays the many colors of love expressed in relationships. Once again Sonja extends her poetry palette in her book “What’s Next?” The cover is a photo taken by Sonja, which features a beautiful sunset that captivates one of life’s precious moments; an essence that is hidden but at the same time revealed. Like the sunset on the cover, this collection of poetry reflects the vivid expression of emotions, thoughts, beliefs and the future. In her book “Little Treasures Love Poems”, the cover of her book shows a water color of a sea shell, she painted year ago. Sonja uses an amazing collection of loves deepest textures, creating intrigue, reality, and hope with passionate expectations to love. Sonja continues to write, that which inspires her life through poetry.

Hope
Mountain
No matter how far we climb
This will still be a mountain
As we go forward
It would be wise to
Use what you have learned
You can dream a little
But be careful
If you decide to climb again
This will still be a mountain
But you will have
A better judgment
Of the steps you
Need to take
Believe
Something so powerful
Makes us believe
Even when we don’t want to
That it gets your attention
We all have our own beliefs
It’s the consequence that gives
What we believe in, life
If you believe in something
Respect it
No need giving power to what
You don’t understand or accept
Don’t waste your curiosity
Give considerable attention
To what is true to you
And
Believe
Other Side
As she crossed the road
She could not look back
For they might see
The fear in her eyes
The little ones followed
Guided by her scent
Step by step
One by one
She led the way
Not seeing ahead
She’s hoping they make it
While she presses onward
With blind faith
She forced life
Afraid for her babies
Empowered with the want to live
Not knowing the future
She continued without hesitation
Knowing what’s expected
Her babies depend on her will
To go forward
Nothing will stand in her way
Now she must get her babies
To the other side
It’s food and water and new life
She must get to the
Other side
Come Together
Let’s test the waters
Will it be that you merely
Can’t stand the outlook
Or the method?
We have a lot of work
And most of it won’t get done
But look,
As long as we come together
The results may still be the same
But we will be better
For the effort
Pieces
I would pick up the pieces
One by one
Wishing I had just begun
How did this happen?
Why must I cry?
I forgot who I once was
As I gently sigh
While I quietly whimper
To balance my temper
Where do I go from here?
Pick up the rest of the pieces
Be diligent
And show no fear
Spot in the Road
I ponder the thought
Of what I need to do
How to change my life
I wish for a quick answer
But there is none
I find reverence in the past
At least I have been there before
It was difficult, but I dealt with it
Now
The spot in the road I leave
