About this ebook

This is a collection of writings under the pen name, T. C. Worthe, written by C. N. Cantelon over a period of years, which address somewhat controversial issues in American life. The pen name was used to separate the persona from C. N. Cantelon because they may not, actually, reflect the authors beliefs or opinions, except at the time of their writing. Things change, and people must be able to adapt. These ideas have merit, but are not always defensible.

C.N. Cantelon

I studied writing in the late 1960's at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, taking classes from William Stafford, Vern Rutsala and James Liddy, among others. I earned my BA in Literature there, then went on to get an MA in English Literature fom the University of Southern California. I began publishing individual poems in magazines and anthologies during that time. I didn't pursue publishing until 2014, when I had my first book, "Continuity," published. Since then, I have published three more books of poetry and prose with Trafford. "Mind Music" will probably be my last.

    UNDERSTANDING THE MECHANICS OF BEING

T he father loves his children, so he gives them the freedom to make mistakes, that they might learn. The evil one knows this and thinks of it as a weakness in the father. He tries to use it to lessen the father’s power by leading the children astray. But the father knows, too, of the motives of the evil one and he gives his children freedom, anyway. The father knows his children and loves them. When a child chooses to ignore the father and follows an errant path, the father bends all his will and energy to protect that child and to enlighten the correct path in order that the child may see the light and return to it. The evil one sees this as a weakness in the father. But the father knows that a father’s love is the greatest strength he has. The evil one errs in his judgement, for the father knows his children and trusts that they will return to him when they learn the value of his love. In the end, the evil one, too, has a father who is patiently awaiting his awakening.

Is it that we cannot see the truth, or that we will not see it, for it is too frightening for us to behold? We are the children. We are the evil one. We are the father.
