    CHAPTER ONE

THE SCRIPTURE SAYS, God is love, God is all, over all, through all, all in all. Love, therefore, is resident in all men and in all things; so let us seek it in all. Seek and ye shall find. Yes, if you truly look for the God-Love in the other, it will shine forth in all of its pristine glory. The first thing we do when we see another is to look for that Divine Love to radiate through his thoughts, words, and deeds. If we truly recognize it as being within him, he must radiate this Love. As within, so without. As above, so below. "As in heaven (consciousness), so on earth (manifestation)."

We must not let fear step in; for it is the opposite of love. Fear is the inversion of love, or love turned upside down. There is only Love. If a man recognizes love in a dog, the animal responds in kind. When we fear the dog or any other animal, the latter senses it, and strikes up a similar response in him.

When we are faced with a problem, let us become still; feel within ourselves that Divine Love is working through the situation now; realize only harmony and peace prevail; then dismiss it from our minds knowing that it is so. We will find a perfect solution is offered to us which blesses all.

By illustration, a woman told me that her son was an aviator during the war. Each night while he was away, during her meditation she would take her son in her arms realizing the Divine Love enfolded him in the midst of the chaos of war. She knew the aura of His Love surrounded the plane, always making it invisible to the so-called enemy. The boy was never attacked; the enemy planes never saw him; so how could they attack him?

Jesus disappeared in the multitude; likewise, the multitude of human thoughts and false beliefs disappear when the shining armor of Truth comes rushing in, lighting up the whole house; then the dawn appears and the shadows flee away.

    Selecting Your Divine Companion

"And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in the place to sleep.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

The name Jacob, means supplanter. You are Jacob when you know how to pray. The one who knows, for example, that when fear strikes, that the mood of faith and confidence in God, or in all things good, will overcome the fear and restore peace, is Jacob.

Jacob also means illumined reason, or the person who understands how to pray scientifically. Notice how Jacob prayed in the above quotation. If you are seeking a husband or wife, we are going to ask you to pray in the same way.

The text says, "He lightest upon a certain place, and tarried there all night; he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down to sleep." The inner meaning of this Biblical quotation tells you that you should judge not according to experiences or sense evidence, but you close your eyes, become still, and take one of the stones which represents a deep inner conviction that what you are praying for already is. Your place is with God, meaning you are going to claim your companion within in the silence of your own soul.

The ladder which reaches to heaven represents the scientific steps of prayer: namely, recognition of God’s presence, acceptance of your ideal, and a deep conviction in the reality of the wish fulfilled.

"The angels of God ascending and descending" on the ladder represent certain qualities and attributes which you wish the man you marry to possess. This is a perfect formula for the marriage made in heaven.

Never think of any particular man, but quietly relax the body and mind; sit still; contemplate the Presence of God; then realize that what you marry is a state of consciousness.

Say quietly and lovingly to you, I now unite with these qualities and attributes; the man I attract and marry will be spiritual, loyal, talented, faithful, prosperous, and happy. I contemplate these qualities now; I evoke the spirit of them; I feel lifted up and inspired (angels ascending). I now go into the deep of sleep feeling and knowing that these qualities and characteristics upon which I have meditated will be etched on my subconscious mind (angels descending). I know this; I believe it; I accept it. I go to sleep now feeling that It is done!

And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. This will happen to you after successfully praying for your Divine companion. Like Jacob, you will wake up in the morning, and pour oil upon the stone, meaning that you will know in your heart your prayer has been answered. Oil represents the oil of joy; the stone, which is used for a pillar, means a fixed state of consciousness. You are now fixed in the belief that what you prayed for is a fact of consciousness, because when you awakened, you were at peace. Yes, you experienced, like Jacob, the joy of the answered prayer!

A great number of men and women in our Bible classes have applied this Biblical formula; they have attracted ideal companions, and are blessed.

Remember God joins a man and woman together in matrimony. You must realize that no one can sanctify a marriage; neither can they validate it, except in a confirmatory sense.

This Biblical formula reveals to you that in order for a marriage to be real, it must first be spiritual; it must be of the heart. The heart is where God dwells. If both of your hearts are moved by love, sincerity, and honesty, then that is God joining both of you together; truly it is the marriage made in heaven. You know, and feel that the action of your heart is Love, and God is Love.

God is not present in all marriages; perhaps there were ulterior motives in the union. If the man marries the woman for money, for position, or to satisfy his ego, that marriage is false; it is a lie. If a woman marries a man for security, wealth, position, a thrill, or to get even with someone, such a marriage is not of God; for God or the truth is not present; such marriages are not real. Many elderly people may marry for companionship; they are sincere, and see the God in each other. Their honesty and sincerity is born of love. They respect each other and love each other; this is a marriage made in heaven, even though the fires of passion and the creative urge are long since gone. Remember that honesty, respect, and integrity is also having the heart; the heart is where the Holy One lives.

When there is a real, true, heavenly marriage, a union of hearts, minds, and bodies, there can be no divorce; neither do they seek divorce, for it is a spiritual union; it is a union of two hearts; each is married to God. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Jesus in the New Sayings is reported to have answered the query as to when the Kingdom of Heaven will come by the words, "When there shall no longer be male or female"; i.e., in a divided, undisciplined state of consciousness.

In the gospel of the Holy Twelve Jesus says, Verily I say unto you, In God there is neither male, nor female, and yet both are one, and God is the Two in One. He is She, and She is He. The Elohim, our God is perfect, Infinite, and One.

How to Pray for the Right Mate

The best time to prevent divorce is before marriage. A man or woman desiring to marry should pray to attract the right mate. The following prayers will prove very effective.

How to Attract the Ideal Husband

I know that I am one with God now. In Him I live, move, and have by being. God is Life; this life is the life of all men and women. We are all sons and daughters of the one Father.

I know and believe there is a man waiting to love and cherish me. I know I can contribute to his happiness and peace. He loves my ideals, and I love his ideals. He does not want to make me over; neither do I want to make him over. There is mutual love, freedom, and respect.

There is one mind; I know him now in this mind. I unite now with the qualities and attributes that I admire and want expressed by my husband. I am one with them in my mind. We know and love each other already in divine Mind. I see the God in him; He sees the God in me. Having met him within, I must meet him in the without; for this is the law of my own mind.

These words go forth and accomplish where unto they are sent. I know it is now done, finished and accomplished in God. Thank you, Father.

How to Attract the Ideal Wife

God is One and Indivisible. In Him we love, move and have our being. I know and believe that God indwells every person; I am one with God and with all people. I now attract the right woman who is in complete accord with me. This is a spiritual union, because it is the spirit of God functioning through the personality of someone with whom I blend perfectly. I know I can give to this woman, love, light, and truth. I know I can make this woman’s life full, complete and wonderful.

I now decree that she possesses the following qualities and attributes; i.e., she is spiritual, loyal, faithful, and true. She is harmonious, peaceful, and happy. We are irresistibly attracted to each other. Only that which belongs to love, truth, and wholeness can enter my experience. I accept my ideal companion now.

As you think quietly and with interest on the qualities and attributes which you admire in the companion you seek, you will build the mental equivalent into your mentality; then the deeper currents of your subconscious mind will bring both of you together in divine order.

The Right Spiritual Approach to Attracting the Ideal Wife

Pray quietly and with interest, using the following prayer: Infinite Intelligence attracts to me the ideal woman, who is marriageable. She is graceful, charming, honest, sincere, loyal, and has a deep reverence for the great eternal truths of God. There are mutual love, freedom and respect between us. I am mentally and spiritually united to these qualities of the woman I want, and I know that as I mediate on these qualities they will sink down by osmosis to my subconscious mind and I will attract a woman who will be the embodiment of my ideal in Divine order through Divine love.

Affirm these truths quietly and with interest night and morning, and when they are subjectified you will automatically attract the right woman and there will be mutual love and understanding. When a seed is placed in the ground, it dies first and then bequeaths its energy to another form of itself. Likewise, the qualities of the ideal woman are dwelling on will become subjectified and then the deeper currents of your mind will bring both of you together in Divine order.

The Ideal Way to Attract the Right Man Into Your Life

If a woman uses the following prayer night and morning, knowing that like a seed deposited in the ground which grows after its kind, likewise will the qualities and characteristics of the man on whom she meditates come forth into her experience in the form of the ideal husband:

Infinite Intelligence attracts to me a man who is marriageable and who has a reverence for the Divinity which shapes our ends. He is spiritual, loyal, faithful, talented, prosperous and successful in life. He harmonizes with me perfectly, spiritually, mentally and physically. He loves my ideals and I love his ideals. He does not want to make me over, and I don’t want to make him over. There are mutual love, freedom and respect between us. He comes without encumbrances. It is an act of providence and makes all things new. The intelligence of the Cosmic Energizer within me brings both of us together in Divine order.

Be sure you do not subsequently deny what you are affirming, because you would then neutralize the prayer process. It would be like pressing up and down at the same time in an elevator.

Prayer Patterns for the Wife to Follow

I saw wonderful qualities in my husband when I married him. These qualities are still there, and from now on I will identify with his fine qualities and not with his shortcomings. I know, feel and claim the Infinite Intelligence leads, guides and directs him in all ways. Regularly and systematically I exalt God in the midst of him. Divine law and order govern his activities. Divine peace fills his soul. Divine love flows through his thoughts, words and deeds toward me and the children. God loves him and cares for him. He is a tremendous success and God prospers him. He is inspired from On High. I know that all these thoughts reiterated regularly and systematically by me find their way to my subconscious mind; and like seeds, they come forth after their kind. Whenever I think of my husband I will immediately affirm, ‘God in me salutes the god in you.’

Contemplate What you Have to Offer a Man

Dwell on your good points, while realizing you are honest, sincere, loving and kind. You appreciate a lovely home. You have the amenities of Life. You can entertain. You can cherish, love and admire the man, and be a tremendous asset to him. Think of all the wonderful qualities you have and let that be your mental broadcast. You are not a nagger, abnormally jealous, a gambler or an alcoholic. On the contrary, you have so much love, peace and kindness to give that by the law of reciprocal relationship, you will attract a man who will love, cherish and admire you also.

If you are a man seeking a wife, ask yourself first what you have to give a wife, Dwell on your good points such as: You are sincere, faithful, loyal, have a very good income and are in a position to furnish an ideal place in which to live. You also realize that if you love a woman, you do not do or say anything unloving, since you want to see her happy, joyous and fully expressed.

    Falling in Love

Fall in love with (i.e., get married to) ideas which heal, bless, prosper, guide, inspire, strengthen and lift you up. Busy your mind with these concepts, and you will leave no vacancy there for the false propaganda of the world. Marry Truth, which never changes, and health, prosperity, vitality, wisdom and understanding will be your offspring.

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman (Proverbs 7:4). Your sister is wisdom, which is an awareness of the Presence and Power of God in you. Understanding is to stand firmly on the Truth, knowing that whatever you claim and feel to be true, your subconscious will respond accordingly. Then you have found your true wife.

    How to Experience True Marriage

Marriage is an accord of Divine ideals, a harmony and a purity of purpose. Harmony, honesty, love and integrity must prevail in the minds and hearts of both husband and wife. Marriage is a union of two souls united by love and respect for each other. When there is a true, spiritual union between two people, there is no divorce, for none is wanted. They blend spiritually, mentally and physically. This is the meaning of: What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder (Matthew 19:6).

    Left at the Altar

Some years ago I visited a church to perform a marriage ceremony. The young man did not appear, and at the end of two hours, the bride-to-be shed a few tears, and then said to me, "I prayed for divine guidance. This might be the answer for He never faileth."

That was her reaction, faith in God and all things good. She had no bitterness in her heart because as she said, It must not have been right action because my prayer was for right action for both of us. Someone else having a similar experience would have gone into a tantrum, have had an emotional fit, required sedation, and perhaps needed hospitalization.

Tune in with the infinite intelligence within your subconscious depths, trusting the answer in the same way that you trusted your mother when she held you in her arms. This is how you can acquire poise and mental and emotional health.

It is Wrong to Marry—Sex is Evil and I am Evil

Some time ago I talked to a young lady aged twenty-two. She was taught that it was a sin to dance, to play cards, to swim, and to go out with men. She was threatened by her mother who told her she would burn eternally in hell-fire if she disobeyed her will and her religious teachings. This girl wore a black dress and black stockings. She wore no rouge, lipstick, or any form of make-up because her mother said that these things were sinful. Her mother told her that all men were evil, and that sex was of the devil and simply diabolic debauchery.

This girl had to learn how to forgive herself as she was full of guilt. To forgive means to give for. She had to give up all these false beliefs for the truths of life and a new estimate of herself. When she went out with young men in the office where she worked, she had a deep sense of guilt and thought that God would punish her. Several eligible young men proposed to her, but she said to me, It is wrong to marry. Sex is evil and I am evil. This was her conscience or early conditioning speaking.

She came to me once weekly for about ten weeks, and I taught her the workings of the conscious and subconscious mind as set forth in this book. This young girl gradually came to see that she had been completely brainwashed, mesmerized, and conditioned by an ignorant, superstitious, bigoted, and frustrated mother. She broke away completely from her family and started to live a wonderful life.

At my suggestion she dressed up and had her hair attended to. She took lessons in dancing from a man, and she also took driving lessons. She learned to swim, play cards, and had a number of dates. She began to love life. She prayed for a divine companion by claiming that Infinite Spirit would attract to her a man who harmonized with her thoroughly. Eventually this came to pass. As she left my office one evening, there was a man waiting to see me and I casually introduced them. They are now married and harmonized with each other perfectly.

Why She Felt Guilty About Divorce

In the course of a conference with a woman in Frankfurt, Germany, I learned that she felt guilty and thought she had sinned grievously because she had divorced her husband, who was an alcoholic and had been very abusive to her and their two children. He was also a non-provider.

I asked her if she didn’t have a persistent feeling, an inner intuitive perception, which lingered within her prior to the marriage, and she said she did but did not heed it. This was the inner voice of her Higher Self seeking to protect her. It is that inner awareness, that silent inner knowing, that always seeks to protect you. There are many men and women who completely reject these inner monitions, murmurings and whisperings of the heart strings. It is wrong to marry when that inner knowing persists.

I explained to her that it is wrong to live a lie, and that divorce was not wrong for her because both of them were already divorced mentally from love, harmony, peace, honesty, integrity, kindness and goodwill.

    She Quoted Matthew: 19

Apparently she knew the verses by heart:

They say unto him, why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

And I say unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committed adultery: and whoso married her who is put away doth commit adultery (Matthew 19:7-9).

The Bible is a psychological and spiritual textbook and must be interpreted from the standpoint of its inner meaning. Ignorance of this inner meaning causes endless confusion, guilt, misery and failure. She had married outside the church and had had a civil ceremony. Her relatives had told her that she had sinned and inevitably would be punished.

The first thing you should learn about marriage is that no rabbi, priest, minister or judge sanctifies a marriage. All they do is to dramatize externally the inner agreement between a man and a woman. Neither does any church on the face of the earth sanctify a marriage. Marriage is a union of two souls who sense the Presence of God in each other. In other words, each is united to the God-Presence within.

    God Is Love

When two hearts unite in love and are honest, just and sincere with each other, that is God, or pure love, joining two people together. It is a union of two souls seeking their way back to the heart of Reality. In a true sense, each is married or united to a God of love, for God is love.

I explained to her that marriage based on lies, falsehood or ulterior motivation is an absolute lie and completely false from all angles. It is foolish to say that God, or love, is present in all marriages. Her ex-husband had lied to her. He had never told her that he was an alcoholic, that he had been previously divorced three times and had abandoned his previous family. This so-called marriage was a complete farce, a sham and a masquerade. This woman realized that he had married her because she was wealthy, pretty and attractive and probably wanted to satisfy and compensate for his inferiority complex and failure in life.

Having explained the inner meaning of the verses she had referred to, there came to her a freedom from a sense of
