Prologue
I visited my daughter’s grave daily for over 60 days. At that time, I would read or just talk to her. I know her spirit is in Heaven but I talked anyway. Sometimes I would just look straight ahead and see nothing. I was extremely depressed and didn’t know what was going on. It was during times like these that ideas came into my head and made themselves into poetry of sorts. All these poems in this volume were written in my little white pick-up at the cemetery at the foot of Blyss Eterna Vyers’ grave. They might not be the best in the world but they were for my child and I believe that means more than whether they rhyme or not. I do know they give you an insight in to my depression and the love that I have for my little girl. She meant everything to me and somehow I trust that God let her put these words into my head so I could write them down. Enjoy, but please understand that depression and grief loss is a mental disease and I was fighting this disease by writing down all my thoughts and impressions of things around me. If you have suffered a loss of a child, I am sure this book of poems will help you find a little peace in this life. May God bless you and keep you.
Dedication
I would like to dedicate this book to Glenda Rowland. She is the pianist at the First Baptist Church in Milburn, Oklahoma. She has unselfishly given of herself to further the singing and praises offered to God. She also has given me the confidence to boldly sing my song of praise to anyone willing to listen. Thank you Glenda for all you have done.
Blowing Flowers
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY, THE TEMPERATURE QUITE LOW
I LOOK OUT MY WINDOW AND SEE THE FLOWERS BLOW
SOME UPROOTED AND LODGED AGAINST THE FENCE
LEFT TO DANGLE THERE AND IT MAKES NO SENSE
ONE OF THE SINGLE FLOWERS DRAPED IN A PINK BOW
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY, THE SUN SHINING BRIGHT
WONDERING HOW THE FLOWERS SURVIVED THE NIGHT
SOME ARE REAL AND SOME ARE PLASTIC
STILL AFTER TIME THEY ALL LOOK FANTASTIC
COLORFUL FLOWERS ALL BLOWN TO THE RIGHT
PINK AND YELLOW, SOME BLUE AND SOME RED
FILL MY HEART WITH WONDER THAT SPINS MY HEAD
COLORS SO BRIGHT JUST SWAYING IN THE WIND
WATCHING AND HOPING MY HEART WILL SOON MEND
FEARING LIFE TOMORROW AND FACING THE DREAD
I SIT IN MY CAR AT THE FOOT OF YOUR GRAVE
WATCHING THE FLOWERS AS IF FROM A CAVE
BLOWING FLOWERS ABOVE YOUR BURIED PINK COFFIN
TOUCHES MY SOUL AND MY ANGER IT DOES SOFTEN
FOR YOU ARE GONE WITH THE FATHER’S LOVE I GAVE
MY DAUGHTER IN HEAVEN, I WANT YOU TO KNOW
YOU’RE IN MY HEART WHEREEVER I GO
KNOWING YOU’RE SAFE AND FREE FROM ALL HARM
MY PRAYER FOR YOU IS SLEEP TIGHT AND STAY
