TWO POEMS

Commute

For Jordan Neely, a brother in madness/After Leila Chatti

On the train home, an evangelist. He says:
GOD IS CALLING YOU TO COME HOME TO HIM

My eyes closed, pretending he cannot see me on this third day
of antipsychotic withdrawal, my insurance expired, my shaking
conspicuous, visible in a city that prefers me invisible.
GOD IS THE ONLY CURE THE ONLY WAY OUT

Thoughts turn to hell, its humid throng, your stop, how it is two flights of stairs below street leveland the elevator to heaven is always out of service.
