SPIRITUAL
A COMMITMENT
A discussion I heard, now many years past,
Between two good friends, who traveled along.
And I have returned to this very path
To see what resolves have guided their song.
Said one to the other, as they spoke years ago . . .
Let us resolve, to plan and commit,
To serve and be served,
As good life will permit.
Oh, said the other; you can of course,
But as for my life, I see not the need.
I require no plan to keep me a float,
I will take what I get, and surely succeed.
So their paths parted and each went his way
To various fancies, both grand and small.
The one had a plan, a commitment and goal;
The other had naught, and no plan at all.
The one with a goal had struggles and pain;
His commitment was firm, and he had to remain.
Because he was sure of the goals in his life,
He won great respect, and life was his claim.
But to the other; he fared not so well,
With no plan in life, no purpose, no goal;
He cared not a trifle to win or to lose,
But wandered the highway . . . . a destitute soul.
So all the years have come and gone,
And we all have fancies, both grand and small.
Some have a plan, a commitment and goal,
And others have naught, and no plan at all!
A MISSIONARY
A missionary spends his nights in prayer
Seeking guidance and God’s divine light.
The Lord is with him through
the hours of the day,
and abides as his shepherd
through the darkness of night.
A missionary is kind and nice to know,
Always his love, he is willing to show
With the Gospel of Christ within his heart
he spreads his joy throughout the whole world.
A missionary works hard
all through his life;
His calling doesn’t cease
at the end of some years.
With God by his side,
he feels no fear;
he’s free from sin
and worldly strife.
A PETITION
8-72
Dear FATHER up in heaven,
so loving and so wise,
I come before Thee on bended knee, and with a humble heart;
To set before Thee a petition
which speaks within my restless heart.
My Lord, my God,
while I am yet so young; while I am yet so full of grace
call me to share from place to place.
With my voice I cry unto Thee,
While my heart whispers peace and calm unto me.
As I kneel before Thee Lord, my desire is very simple.
I’ll ask not for glory nor wide acclaim,
Not for power nor riches
