Acknowledgment
This book is dedicated to my Father in Heaven
" . . . in whom also we have obtained an inheritance
being predestinated according to the purpose
of him who worketh all things after the counsel of
His own will, that we should be to the praise
of His glory." **
And, to all who a re suffering, it is my prayer that
you will be drawn more closely to God and know
the sustaining solace of His comfort through
your very sorrow and defeat.
That your life will blossom and grow in a new
upward direction from the harsh stimulus of grief.
That from the cataclysm, will spring a new courage,
a deeper understanding, so that life not be
inhibited by remorse but rather, by it,
be set more firmly on course.
In the initial stage of sorrow, it possesses the soul
but after its refining process, the soul confines,
restrains and uses sorrow more magnificently
than the oyster, which makes of that
irritating, imbedded particle, a beautiful pearl.
**Ephesians 1:11-12
A Child’s Faith
He looked at me with tears filling his eyes,
for answers, to the reasons no one knows
or understands misfortunes harshest blows
and so I feigning strength through strange disguise
hug him moments after his mother dies
and try to tell him how the Saviour chose
his mother for her goodness, and bestows
treasures on such Angels in Paradise.
Yet while his whys
were more than I could bear
he quietly accepted, then as we prayed
I hid my tears while hearing his small prayer
and ever since my mind this truth engraved,
with childlike faith we must be reconciled
to enter Heaven one becomes a child.
"Verily I say unto you,
Whosoever shall not receive
the kingdom of God as a little child
shall in no wise enter therein."
Luke 18:17
A Glad Accepting Heart
I prayed for things I did not know
that God would not fulfill
until He proceeded to show
that oft we must keep still
as He reveals His will.
I asked for joy, yet had to see
so I could understand
that God gives what is best for me
and not of my demand
but what is in His plan.
And then it seemed but somber cares
that I was left to face
yet still it was an answered prayer
for there God’s wondrous grace
my cares all did replace.
I thank the Lord, beyond my reach
He gave of Heaven’s art
through my unanswered prayers did teach
a deeper greater part,
a glad accepting heart.
A Grand Retreat
When life’s trials have overtaken
all your dreams, and hope is spurned
and your friends have all forsaken
and your heart with fury burns.
Theres a haven free from worry
for the soul a grand retreat,
in this special sanctuary
filled with glory and with peace.
Souls its grand consolements squander
never willing to come there
where each pain is lost in wonder
by the heart lifted by prayer.
Up each new plateau ascended
where no earthly pain betrays,
where the heart worn battle’s ended
won by worship, love and praise.
O I thank you loving Father
for your kind eternal care
we will never have a problem
where we can’t reach you through prayer.
Forgive Lord, faith’s hesitation
where thy chastening is done,
with such blessed consolation
I can face whatever comes.
A Hint
A Nightingale
has cast its spell
and soon compels
attention there be given.
Through songs he brings
sweet lyrics sings
heralding Spring
and hints a bit of Heaven.
A House Is Not A Home
I built a house upon a hill
high up above
on solid ground
and it was somehow unfulfilled
and not enough
but soon I found
a house is not a home until
it’s filled with love
around it bound.
A Mountain Peak
A horizontal view is oft confining
I must lift up my eyes unto the hills
to the bluer sky beyond that is lining
whatever God’s purpose there fulfills.
And my soul is being warmed with such rapture
and glows as if a special key I own
there opens God’s doorway to capture
a first glimpse of God’s transcendent throne.
My heart lifts beyond the clouds dimensions
soft white dust, where the Angels trod
highways of many jeweled dimensions
paying omnipotent respect to God.
In great joyous wonder I am soaring
as an eagle in wild wondrous flight
above the din of the multitudes uproaring
until strangely, the world is lost from sight.
Higher and higher o’er life’s heartaches
the heart like the sun, starts to climb,
melting all care, as frost on the landscape
and troubles, tiny fragments, left behind.
Come ascend with me by the way of God’s mountain
sail with me far above earth’s despair
by drinking deeply from His holy mountain
from the lofty pinnacle of fasting prayer.
A Neighbor
I put up with her strangest ways
and daily crude oppression,
opportunities she betrays
each calculated session,
but further now memory strays
since I learned this lesson.
With every testing, hard I tried
my attitude to mend,
with my rights to defend
through every weakness, grace supplied,
and she told me before she died
I was her dearest friend.
A New Mother’s Prayer
Oh Lord, You’ve blest me with this child
so help me in return
to be more patient kind and wise
for children love discern
and this is how they learn.
Help me to learn to hold my tongue
and not be prone to fret
for words in anger hastily wrung
that haunt us with regret
the child will not forget.
Give me strength through loving grace
that balance may be seen
through needs projected against waste
to gauge the gulf between
these two of life’s extremes.
Help me in love tend each request
while being bold to warn
to not indulge in some excess
when fearing to alarm
means doing much more harm.
Above all Lord, through love’s precepts
I pray you still teach me
that I may follow in your steps
and good example be
for them to follow Thee.
A New Wealth
Put something in your mind
greater than yourself,
surprisingly you will find
a new and treasured wealth.
No more selfish requesting
of how best we can live,
we gain an added blessing
by giving all we can give.
A Poet’s Prayer
Awake us Lord, lo the horizon
is red with fire of dying day,
it is a time for now arising
the truth more powerfully to say.
Let poets cease our petty chattering,
let psalms of praise instead arise,
transform all silly, foolish babbling
and seek a renewed paradise.
Make each word and thought more holy
commissioned by thy Spirit’s pen,
let each vessel however lowly
be channels of hope for fallen men.
Oh please dear Lord, send forth thy message
oh bless each thought, each searching mind
to bring some good out of life’s wreckage
while pointing them to truths divine.
A Prayer
Lord, I thank you for the dirty dishes to clean
that my children are fed before going to bed
and for all the lessons I’ve seen
I praise your name.
Lord, I thank you for the clothes here to mend
that my children are warm and safe from harm
and for all the blessings you daily send
I praise your name.
Lord, I thank you for the work I have to do,
for you giving me this dear family
to do it as my due
to enjoy all my life through
I praise your name.
A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Lord I thank you for your blessings
Even those of cruelest testings
And for every pain and sorrow I’ve been through
For they showed me what I can and cannot do,
For you helped me in my troubles
What I could not do through struggles
So though afflictions many come, or few
I know these woes just bring me close to you.
Oh I thank you for my children
For I know that you are with them
And are helping each one with their daily plans
All across each lone, adventure’s dangerous span,
How I praise you we are healthy
That with Heaven’s love we’re wealthy
For I feel we all are nestled in your hands
With a peace that we will never understand.
When it seems I can no longer
Stand and face it, I grow stronger
When self moves away and makes more room for grace,
Then immediately these sorrows I can face
For these trials meant to search us
Show a higher nobler purpose
So then let affliction’s Angels fiercely chase
And cover me in woe’s loving, sacred place.
As this prayer, my Lord, is ending
I’ll repeat from the beginning
I thank you for all my sorrows I thought wrong
For I’ve learned to recognize where I belong,
Through distresses hard to mention
Brought through evil men’s dissension
I’ve learned affliction comes with joys along
And God, give enough of each to make me strong!
AMEN
A Secret shared
We know a secret
the birds and I
and our hearts correspond
where earthbound people scurry on by
too rushed to hear our songs.
a synchronous rhythm
fills the air
and beats within each breast,
jubilance too great for earth’s despair
too strong to be repressed
in rhapsodic songs our hearts combine
with joys that repercuss
all because we’ve set aside the time
to let God care for us.
A Small Kindness
Reach out for new purpose
again each new day,
give someone a blessing
through something you say.
If but for a moment
a kindness you show
one long may remember
though you never know.
It may be a small deed
through someone’s duress
