To Rev. Israel and Tora Abdelaziz—they taught me all about the Lord, all about Christ, along with my husband and family.
In memory of my late husband, Marion Nelson Sr., and my son Michael David, who is deceased.
To my wonderful children, who gave me great encouragements.
To Rev. Tora Michele and Rick; Marion Jr. and Shirley; Minister Mark Anthony and Mary; Matthew Paul and Gloriss; my granddaughter Phoebe M. and Adrian; and my church pastors Mel and wife, Della.
To my family and relatives: my brother Rev. Israel and wife, Daisy; my brother John and wife, Dea; my sister Evelyn and husband, Lloyd; my sister Irene and deceased husband, Howard; Europe Ahmad Farmer; Robert and Gloria; Julia and Benjamin; Melba and James; and Hans Lucas.
Please enjoy this first volume of poems. May God continually bless you all.

I Am Inspired by You
15438.jpgYou inspire me, the wonderful faith you show
Because of you, I do better in my practice, you know
People want to serve God more with a real clean heart
You just keep it up; you inspire folks to a new start
People can read into you and feel what you are all about
Like me, I am encouraged to absolutely shout it out
You inspire me; I see in you who I am
Where I have been, and whom I will follow as a lamb
You show me what to bring forward and what to leave behind
You help me make decisions, with God’s peace covering my mind
How wonderfully you get things done without a hint of confusion
You teach me how to gather information for a sweet conclusion
Your life has shown me how peaceful my life can be
Peace in the storms or on the turbulent and angry sea
By not getting all riled up but with quietness to be exact
You communicate and influence with wisdom at your back
You inspire those that are around you every day, I am sure
The letter you write is your life that says you are honest and pure
You inspire your acquaintances when you are not trying to inspire
When people desire to be their best, you inspire their desire
You are a light, a city on a hill, and salt to save the world
You’re a model to the parents as they groom their boy and girl
As I have previously said, these words are true
You walk beautifully; you are an inspiration by simply being you

15441.pngPreface
I began writing poetry in 1951. This book of poetry is influenced by my faith in God, which spreads through every poem that I have written on these humble pages. My intentions are to edify and exhort the reader to be inspired by these treasures of my soul.
Jesus, the Resurrection
11864.jpgRise and shine, the stone is rolled away
He is not here,
the women heard the angel say
Jesus, the Resurrection, arose from the dead
In three days I will rise,
that is what Jesus said
They believed that they had put an end to the highest king on earth
Oh, Resurrection, you were Lord and King even before your birth
People, get up, stand tall, and lift your voice and say
Yes, we will follow our Lord and King from this Resurrection Day
Resurrection, oh, Resurrection, we honor and praise your name
You’re worthy of all power and glory; your majesty, the same
Holy Resurrection, you ascended to the Father on high
You paid the utmost price; you suffered, bled, and died
We are determined, all of us, to serve you day and night
We will wear the royal banner; we will stand together and fight
Resurrection, oh, Resurrection, my Lord and my God
As David said, we will say Our staff and our rod
You gave your life a ransom; you paid for everything
You reconciled us back to God; our hearts will shout and sing
Resurrection, oh, Resurrection, we will rise up and shine
As diamonds and precious jewels to hear you say You’re mine
You may rise, the stone is rolled away; raise your wings and soar
Eternal life is yours today; you may live for evermore
To everyone who listens and obeys his tender voice
There’s an award awaiting if you make the Lord your choice

11868.pngEurope Ahmad
11870.jpgWarm, tender, strong, and caring
You’ve a heart that’s made of pure gold
You are a person that leaves an indelible mark
On another person’s soul
A person is lucky to find a friend like you
You are reachable, charming, and kind
If more people would learn and practice your secret
It would change more people’s mind
You’re a gentleman with knowledge worthwhile
With appreciation for the grand and small
You cherish the beauty of life itself
Not only some of God’s creatures but all
You are not waiting to behold the future
But you are serious about the here and now
You insist on enjoying the present graces
No quitting, no failure, and nohow
Your love for family is beautiful and wide
And you find joy informing your kin
And with the wonderful attitude you have, my dear
It will always produce a win

11872.pngSimply Oprah
11874.jpgYou are an extraordinary woman
Intelligent, warm, and caring
All of America and everyone
Appreciates the way you’re sharing
You are a great national figure
And loved by one and all
You’ve always been just wonderful
It’s been Simply Oprah’s call
Simply Oprah, you’re down to earth
The way you handle things
And the concern you have for humanity
Is a song the nation sings
You are changing the world around you
By doing things so worthwhile
Just being Simply Oprah
You do it with a smile
I wanted to tell you personally
That you’ve got it going on
You’re one admired woman
By others and your own
Besides that you’re beautiful
And on top of everything
Divinely, but Simply Oprah
I hear your praises ring

11876.pngA Mentor and Friend
11878.jpgThank you for helping us
We do not forget a friend
You have been a second parent
A mentor and a gentleman
I remember the many times
When my son leaned on you
You were always there for him
And you would always help him through
My son would always come to you
As if you were his dad
You would take time to listen
Whether he was okay or sad
You helped him as he struggled
To become the man he is
You were a friend, coach, and mentor
You’re simply a downright wiz
Your wisdom and generosity
Helped to keep my son in bound
The advice that you would give him
Was always good and sound
Sometimes your team hurled words at you
But a nicer coach could not be found
You are a saint and a student’s best friend
And a perfect Charlie Brown
It’s folks like you who make the difference
With your family right by your side
Your great and honorable attributes
Can’t ever be denied
Our lives are richer because of you
We thank you ever so much
God bless you now and always
Our family will keep in touch

11880.pngYou Got Problems?
11882.jpgYou act like your problems
Are so much bigger than God
Sometimes when you have a problem
You wallow in the sod
When are you going to start healing?
And start practicing what you’re preaching
Is it true that you are not yielding?
Will you also now stop reaching?
Would you come right out and say
My faith is simply dwindling
Because I can’t handle this problem today
Most likely, I am not surrendering
My beloved, you may have problems tonight
But joy will come tomorrow
And tonight if you can’t get it right
Don’t wallow in your sorrow
Listen, darling, I know a physician
That is a specialist of every disease
And if you would catch the vision
He would fix it if you please

11884.pngIn Doing So
11886.jpgI like describing people
When writing down my thoughts
I try to write the positive things
And never, ever faults
Because all of us have plenty of them
And it doesn’t feel good to hear it
Let’s lift each other with positive words
I’m sure we will not regret it
Some folks spend too much time
Putting other people down
Then they do the very same thing
Before they turn around
What we all need to do
Is help each other live
Instead of taking from each other
We must learn to give
You are not excluded, my dear
You fit into this puzzle
You should bridle your busy tongue
Or wear a golden muzzle
So be careful of the deeds you do
This you need to know
The harm you do to others
You’ll reap just what you sow
Now are you ready to reap
Everything you have sown
To all of your acquaintances
And the others you have known
Let’s try our best to edify
Our family and others too
And when you edify other folks
You are edifying you
11888.pngIf I Didn’t Know You
11897.jpgIf I didn’t know you, I would say
That you are trying to get over me
But that’s not your way of doing things
Your words are my guarantee
I have faith you will do things right
Regardless the price you pay
I am holding on to who I think you are
I know you know the way
You are an inspiration
For the folks who are your peers
They model your behavior and style
You take care of all their fears
The people you lead can trust in you
They know that you are all right
Most folks don’t mind following
When someone holds the light
If I didn’t know you better
I would think you’re about to change
But that’s not possible because I know you
You will stay within the range
January 1, 2001
11899.pngFortitude
11902.jpgWhen you think you just can’t do it
Fortitude says you can
You must go against all the odds
And handle it like a man
When everything in you seemingly
Gives up and surrenders
Fortitude reaches deep inside of you
And never lets anything hinder
Fortitude takes your weaknesses
And bundles them altogether
Then stands on top of all of them
It will endure any weather
It’s like a car when the gas is gone
It still runs on its fumes
Fortitude searches until it finds
The passage to a hidden room
The room that holds the overplus
Of the strength you didn’t use
Fortitude then replaces
The portion that you’ll choose
So when you think you just can’t do it
Fortitude says you can
It goes against all the odds
It’s possibly a work at plan

11904.pngFlawed?
11906.jpgYou’re not flawed; you’re in his image, and you’re not the reverse
Our God is the supreme artist; he is God of the universe
You were made exactly right, and that was just like him
He doesn’t just love some of his children; he loves all of them
Things about you that might be flawed are the things that Satan would
But what God made of all of us is good and very good
Satan hopes that you will think that something is wrong with you
He also hopes that he will win before he’s really through
So if you think that there is something that’s causing you to fall
I have a number I can give to you; this number is good to call
John wrote these words in a special book, chapter 3 and verse 16
Our God gave Jesus to give his life; Jesus came between
Satan doesn’t want you to know these facts; he tries to turn your face
But this is truth, he gave you life; it was God’s amazing grace
See, you’re not flawed; you’re in his likeness, and you have been set free
Gird up your loins, for in this world, he is the light for us to see
Never again will I believe that something is wrong with me
I’ve come to know that whom I’ve chosen is whom I want to see
Remember, to live a wonderful life, be happy and give him praise
There is no flaw in the master’s plan; let’s serve him all our days
April 30, 2009
11909.pngDiabolic Resolve
11912.jpgCouldn’t stand to see you prosper
I tried to, but I couldn’t
If I can hold you back, I will
I wanted you to stop, but you wouldn’t
I traveled miles ahead of you
And set up roadblocks to cause you to fall
But at each roadblock as you traveled
You had abundant power, I recall
You spoke your intentions publicly
And I knew which way you would go
So I took the opportunity that was afforded me
I was your resolved diabolic foe
Now I realize you have power unseen
And you don’t travel alone
I am still not giving up on my resolve
I’ll just paint with a different tone

11914.pngThe Man of Change
11919.jpgAs we were praying, God had arranged
That a man called Obama was sent for a change
We watched with amazement the filling of a plan
And tears of joy from a righteous wind
The righteous wind just blew away the hinder
That was aimed at the man to prevent the defender
Being of God of whom no man can prevent
It is a matter of fact, God permitted this event
Not too long ago, was a leader named King
With a dream and a song, we would quite often sing
That a man would not be judged by the color of his skin
But by his character and his mind with his work, he would win
Americans, the man of change has come to light
He was faced with lies and slander, but he won in spite
He is a genuine model for the people of America
And many other countries and, definitely, Kenya
We remember our struggles for equality in the past
We are hoping this will help end our dreadful task
We are faced with uncertain days ahead
But thanks be to God, he has lessened the dread
The man of change, an administrator for the right
He won the presidency with a righteous fight
We, the people, stand with the man of change
This righteous change is what God arranged

11916.pngA Letter of Praise for a Daughter’s Love
Tora Michele
11921.jpgComing from the voice of a mom
There are times when a mom’s all alone
A situation that should not be
Dad went to heaven; he can’t be with me
The average son is great but sometimes occupied
It used to be my husband always by my side
Dad was there every step of the way
When I needed help, I could always hear him
say
How are you, what can I do
Now it’s my daughter following through
She does everything she can do for me
Doesn’t ask for anything; she does it all for free
I have been sick in the middle of the night
Who do I call? My daughter, that’s right
She’s not selfish, but she needs help herself
Whatever she’s doing, she leaves it on the shelf
It bothers me greatly to call her, you see
We’ve a special relationship; she’s there for me
I needed to get to the hospital to keep me alive
With God and my daughter, I will survive
11923.pngHate-Retention Prescription
11925.jpgA love prescription from a hate-retention specialist
He says take one full cup of love running over, also this
Take this prescription all the time, and do not miss
You could most likely eliminate many others on your list
Without this prescription, your chance for healing is nil
It takes care of all other problems like hearing Peace, be still
A sick man went to this specialist and said, You can heal me if you will
The specialist replied, I will,
and the believing sick man was healed
Take this prescription; it will cast out the hate-retention enemy
And other antagonistic serums; bad drug interaction, you see
They leave a film that covers vital organs in you and me
Remove the corruption on the organs, the vital ones will be free
Hate retention will not go away without love, read and adhere
Go to the specialist, present your problems, no good reasons to fear
Take this advice, follow your lead, the specialist will always be there
There are no other physicians in the entire world, do not compare
Your problems are serious with definite hate retention
You cannot change your condition without a hate-retention physician
Make an early appointment with him, all has free admissions
You may call this number, G1 O2 D3; the universe is given permission

11928.pngBarricaded
11930.jpgDon’t be barricaded
By anyone that you know
Or with any of your emotions
Your emotions will come and go
Because you can do all things
His strength is sufficient for you
The anything that would hinder
He will lead you safely through
Some folks will set up barricades
All along your way each day
They will say You know I got your back
They will even pretend to pray
They will run and open the door for you
And help you like a maid
But if they see something good for you
They will set up a barricade
I tell you that they can’t help themselves
They’re doing the best they can
But until their souls are born again
Their evil hearts will plan
Yes, my beloved Christian friends
This is one of the things you’ll bear
It’s hard, but you can make it
But the Lord knows it’s not fair
Just keep your hand
