    Introduction

Cancer is not only a sickness; it is also a learning experience. As strange as it may sound, I am a pillar of strength because of what I had to experience along with my mother. I can never walk in her shoes, but I am now glad that I was able to walk alongside of her. My goal is to make you aware that you are not alone. By the time that you finish reading this book, you will know what I mean.

I don’t have cancer, but my mom lost her life because she had breast cancer. My mother’s smile was even more beautiful when she was around her grandchildren. The presence of her grandchildren made her feel a great amount of joy, and they unknowingly gave her the strength to fight for her life.

    The Telephone Call

She told me that it was a routine procedure and that I should not worry about it. She told me that she wanted to get it done because she had been experiencing too many problems with her menstrual cycle. Every time that she had it, the flow was very heavy and painful. She then told me that she had been bleeding nonstop for two months. My mother underwent a full hysterectomy, and she kept that a secret from me. My other sisters did not
