Florentina Galla
Florentina was born in Bucharest, where she spent her first four-and-a-half years in an orphanage. She was adopted and raised in the middle of a tough communist regime that shaped her tough skin yet challenged her soul and made her wonder who she really was. In 1996 she came to the US with her son to start a new life. She had different, new obstacles: going back to school, learning a new language, working, and raising her son—all at the same time. She is a registered dental hygienist from New Jersey and Romania with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in holistic nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health. She is recognized by the American Naturopathic Board Association and a certified natural health practitioner (CNHP), and she became a certified health coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in New York City. She worked in the dental field for twenty years, and for the last six, she has been a clinical instructor at the hygiene clinic of Bergen Community College. Her determination helped her to achieve so many highs personally and professionally. Her love for better health and the enigma of longevity pushed her to become who she is today: a holistic person and a successful therapist and hygienist.

This book would not exist but for the faith and support of those who believed in me. It is a pleasure and an honor to thank them here.
First, thanks to my editors for enthusiastically embracing the idea of a book on holistic dentistry and hygiene. Above all, I am indebted to Christine, who kept calling and emailing with reminders that I had a book to write. She never gave up on me. She introduced me to Kathy Burnsed, a TV/radio speaker, who gave me wings to spread my love of the concept of holistic dentistry.
I also thank my mentor, Dr. Louis Steinberg, who allowed me to open a nutritional dialog with his patients. I’ve learned so much from him, and I can never thank him enough.
I thank my teacher, Dr. Enescu, dean of my first school of dental hygiene and first generation of dental hygienists in Romania. She was a tough and exceptional educator, and I will never forget how my hands trembled during your exams and how hard I tried to hide it! You were pivotal to my love and understanding of human beings and science!
Thanks to Dr. Barnard for the call she made long ago and for opening the doors of Bergen Community College to me. My gratitude also goes to professor Satin: what a sweet soul she is! From Bergen Community College, I also thank Prof. Campbell and Prof. Hall, who believed in me and allowed me to spread my love for holistic dentistry to the hygiene students. This work helped me to overcome my fear of speaking in public. Prof. D. Cook, thank you for putting up with and understanding me.
Thank you, Dr. Oz, Dr. Mercola and the Food Matter
for educating me and making me feel I’m not alone in this world.
Thanks to Dr. Sama’ra, my friend, for the energy, love, and selflessness he emanates to the world. I once told him, You are here for a reason!
I want to mention my son Adrian, as if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be. I am so proud of him.
In memory of Aba
