J. L. Reynolds was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1939. He lived and worked in the Kansas City area untill he retired from T.W.A in 1994. He was never trained as a writer, but has written many poems and songs over the years, none of which have been published. This novel is his first attempt at serious writing. The completion of this novel marks a new path he has chosen to follow. At the time of this printing, he has written three other novels that will complete the story of The Continent of St. Louis. The subsequent novels that complete the story will be published and released in the months to come. His philososphy on life is that a person is never to old to try something new or different. Success, he feels is not what others may say or think regarding your work, but rather the satisfaction the individual gets completing something they have started.

44866.pngLife is a journey containing experiences that challenge, amaze, or thwart us. Although we strive to achieve our hopes and dreams while living a happy, joyful existence, life’s challenges can get in the way. When we do not know how to hold on to our joy, over time life can beat us down, leaving us a shadow of our former selves. At times, it may leave some wondering why they should even hope to find happiness in living or whether they want to go on.
However, happiness is not a struggle for everyone. During your life, you’ve probably met people who seem to be happy even though they are going through a very difficult phase in their life. You may know people who always seem to be smiling, and their smile even shines out from their eyes. Have you ever wondered how they do it? Are they faking it, or is it real? Is there a chance they know something about retaining the joy of living that they’re not sharing? These are questions I began asking my angels as a youth. From my point of view, it seemed that more people were hurting or somehow broken than radiating happiness from their spirits.
This is where I started on my quest for answers. I was mortified to think that when I grew up, there was a good chance I would be broken too. I wanted to live my life to the fullest and draw every little bit of happiness I could from the experience. Although I knew I could not always control the outcome of every situation, I wanted to know what I could do, if anything, to hold on to my joy of living. I was convinced that there had to be more to life than feeling spiritually beaten up and left for dead long before my physical body died. It did not any make sense to me that the universe would bring us into this world to make us suffer without any way to protect ourselves from being devastated by life.
There is no easy way out. From a very young age, I knew that in Exodus 20:13, the Bible said that you should not kill, which I presumed includes killing yourself. My angels further explained that regardless of what a soul needs to work on as part of its growth in this lifetime that work continues even if physical life is ended. This means the individual needs to continue the soul’s journey without the benefit of energetic support from people in the human-relationship matrix. Unfortunately, suicide brings the additional angst of watching the effect that premature death has on loved ones, which only adds to the soul’s burden.
I began questioning the adults in my life, but they could not answer my questions to my satisfaction. It bothered me so much that I prayed about it. I thought that by going to the source, I would have a better chance of receiving the answers I needed. Specifically, I asked for guidance and knowledge from the divine on how to hold on to my joy of living and keep happiness alive in my spirit. It was not long afterward that the universe began my life lessons.
In my youth, I somehow expected the angels to give me answers—and I thought that whatever the answer was, it would be relatively easy to do. Unfortunately, that was not the case. To help with my learning, the universe presented me with numerous life lessons over many years. I must admit that there were times my journey was fraught with pain and hurt, and I was not sure whether I could find the strength to make it through the experience. There were times when I barely held on to any semblance of joy in my life, and I struggled to smile.
During the throes of my painful life lessons, I sometimes questioned why bad things were happening to me. I tried so hard to be good. I did my best to be nice to everyone I met. I struggled to understand why the universe was putting me through this firestorm of negative experiences just to answer my questions. Somehow, I never expected that life could hurt so much or that my experiences would make my spirit feel like it was bleeding to death or under some vicious attack that would never end. I understood why some people were sad to their very soul.
When I reached this point, my guides reminded me that I had asked for the information and to be open to what I needed to learn. They reminded me that by going through the journey, I would gain answers to my questions. Although I would have preferred the angels simply tell me the answers, in time I realized that by living through the tribulations, pain, and hurt, I learned far more. If they had just given me the answers, I might not have appreciated the beauty and complexity of who we really are or how we can manage our energy.
During and after each life lesson, I have discovered more about who I am, what I am, my strengths and weaknesses, and how I fit into the universal energy grid, which is the divine energy source of all life. I also learned how powerful thoughts, actions, deeds, and words are from an energetic perspective. Although they can wound, hurt, and destroy others—depending upon the vehemence of the sender’s intent—they also have the power to promote spiritual healing. My angels and guides taught me techniques and strategies to mitigate or reverse some of the damage experienced by my spirit body. Doing so allowed me to take back my joy and happiness of living, but I had to work at it and believe I could do it.
In this book, I will share some of the basic concepts and techniques my angels and guides taught me. I hope this information will help you ward off negative attacks to your own spirit body and manage your energy more effectively, as it did for me. However, the information in this book is not a definitive list of what you should do. No approach to managing energy is one-size-fits-all. Some techniques that work well for me may not work for you.
When a technique does not work for you, your soul might be telling you that it is not a good fit for your spirit body. Try to hear what your soul is telling you. Additionally, as with any energetic technique, your energetic abilities affect whether or not you will be successful in managing your energy. Your ability to manifest your thoughts, wishes, and intentions; connect with universal energy; sense energy; and manifest your energetic visualizations will affect your ability to manage your energy and protect your spirit body from harm.
Each of us has the power to harness happiness and draw it into our lives while holding on to our joy of living. If we do not, or if we choose not to manage our energy, then we are in essence letting life kick us around and giving away our power to control how we experience life through our spirit bodies. Your life belongs to you. Every day, you document how your life story affects your spirit body and record the essence of your experiences in your soul.
Although no one can change life events decreed by fate, we have the power to change how we energetically manage our response and its effect on our spirits. If you are feeling as though life has beaten you up, you do not have to stay that way. At this moment, you can choose to take back control of your energy, grab back your joy of living, celebrate your successes, and learn from what challenges you.
Each time something happens in your life, you can choose to hold on to the energy that nourishes your soul or teaches you lessons leading to your personal growth while letting the negative energy go. The most important thing is whether you believe that you can. Your belief is critical to your success. If you do not believe that you have the power to manifest good things in your life, manage your energy, or protect your spirit body from harm, then this book is not for you. If you do not believe a technique in this book will work for you, then it probably will not. As with anything in life, you need to put in the effort and believe it will work. Using your energetic abilities is like exercising a muscle. Without the effort, you are limiting your success in achieving your spiritual rewards.
However, just because you do everything perfectly from an energetic perspective to protect your spirit body doesn’t mean you’ll be happy every day for the rest of your life and will never feel another moment of sadness or emotional pain. Most likely, you will. Each of us experiences the fullness of life through our emotions. If we never felt sad, unhappy, down, or hurt again, we might not appreciate the euphoric feeling that sometimes comes with happiness and joy. When we experience life through all shades of emotions, it helps our souls on their quest to grow and learn. Sometimes we learn more from the challenging times than the good times.
Even though we may experience emotionally devastating times in our lives, we can’t allow this pain to damage our spirit or carry it around as baggage for the remainder of this lifetime. If we choose to do this, the damage to our spirit bodies may contribute to a powerful struggle to retain any joy in the act of living. As such, my wish for you is that you will have the ability to manage your energy well and limit the degree of energetic damage your spirit body sustains as you go through life’s challenges, so that you too can take back your joy of living.

We humans are complex creatures, far more than mere flesh and bones. We can think, feel, and respond to both seen and unseen forces. You already know that within our physical bodies our synapses, nerves, and circuitry continually send messages to and from every part. Every second of our lives, energy is in continual movement within us.
The energy that sustains our physical bodies comes from many different sources. Every day, we take energy from food as calories, vitamins, and minerals and convert it into energy to do physical activities and sustain our bodies. We take energy from the air we breathe and the water we drink. We release energy into the air through breath and sweat. Our skin absorbs vitamins from the sun and allows us to react to our physical environment. The physical body is a complex machine that can do many things, but it’s only one side of the human equation.
You’ve probably heard at some point in your life that you have both a physical being and a spirit or soul. Throughout our lives, it is the soul that defines who we are. This essence guides and teaches us what is right and wrong; it helps us grow into the best version of who we can be. What you may not be aware of is that before you were born, your soul selected both a physical body and spirit body (energy body) with the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and gifts needed to navigate life’s challenges. In utero, your physical and spirit bodies adhered to each other. Your physical body is the machine, while your spirit body is the operator that puts your soul’s essence into action. Although your soul and spirit body are distinct entities, together they comprise your spirit.
From an energetic perspective, we experience life through both our physical and spirit bodies simultaneously. For example, after a long cold winter, you may feel happier or more positive when you sense the first essence of spring. You may find that going to a specific place or looking at pictures of a vacation where you thoroughly enjoyed yourself can calm you or makes you feel happier. This is a result of the deep connection between our physical and energetic bodies. Although they connect, each retains the ability to act either singularly or in tandem with the other, depending on the circumstances. Without this essential connection between spirit and physical bodies, we would not be living here on planet Earth today.
Through your spirit body, you process life events and energetically record what you learned from the experience in your soul. Your spirit body sustains your connection to the divine, the universal energy grid. as well as connecting you to others. Through your spirit body, you can feel emotion, and you can experience love and a host of other feelings. Whenever you feel as though life has beaten you, you have probably sustained damage to your spirit body, and it hurts. Many life events can damage your spirit body, including neglect, withdrawal of love, blows from energetic missiles of hurtful words and actions geared to inflict pain, or actual physical pain, illness, or disease.
Although you may feel hurt by the actions or words of another, how do you know the extent of the damage those words have done to your spirit or psyche? There are times when the hurt, anger, and sadness have an immediate physical manifestation, such as crying or getting angry. We can measure many types of physical energy scientifically, but I am not aware of any scientific way to measure the level of tension in a room after an argument, even though the air may feel like it is electrified. Nor am I aware of anything we can use to measure the strength of another’s anger in the midst of an argument other than measuring how loud the person’s voice becomes, which doesn’t always help because some of us don’t yell when we’re angry.
It’s hard to measure the emotional energy in a space, yet we know it exists. At least once in your lifetime, you have probably been on the receiving end of a blast of white-hot anger from another that left you feeling burned, angry, or hurt. Unfortunately, the full scope of damage resulting from the harshness of others may not be obvious until an additional life event occurs that releases the floodgates of hurt energy within us.
Even though you cannot scientifically measure the degree of damage to your spirit, the carnage is real. Regardless of how well you mask the impact of emotional energetic attacks, if you do not protect your spirit body, the damage profoundly affects your joy in living. For some, energetic or emotional damage manifests as mental-health issues or physical ailments as the spirit body notifies the brain that there is a problem. Others may lose their ability to trust or develop anger issues. Regardless of how the energetic damage manifests, you’ll need to work on both your physical and spirit bodies simultaneously in
