Introduction
If I could speak in any language in heaven or on earth but didn’t love others, I would only be making meaningless noise like a loud gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I knew all the mysteries of the future and knew everything about everything, but didn’t love others, what good would I be? And if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, without love I would be no good to anybody. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it, but if I didn’t love others, I would be of no value whatsoever.
—1 Corinthians 13:1–3 (NLT)
SELAH!
Selah means think about it.
I want you to take time and think about this scripture. Do not overlook any of it. This scripture has been overlooked for too long. I have heard messages preached on the subject of love, and this is the scripture used to bring the point—the point that is always underdeveloped. Every time I hear this topic preached, I would scream inside, KEEP GOING!
but I am always disappointed. I believe that the subject of LOVE should be preached until it is understood!
The Call to Purpose
God told me in previous times of prayer that I am the essence of love. Isn’t it great to know that because God is infinite, He sees us completed? We are left saying, God, I think you’ve missed it this time.
Although we know God never misses, when we look at ourselves through carnal eyes, we normally don’t see what He does—at least not right off. God told me this because He knows me. He knows what He is and has been equipping me for. God knows what He had purposed me to be before the foundations of the earth. He is taking me back to what He spoke into my spirit before I left His presence.
I went through the right hell (suffering) to draw forth the right purpose. God knew what I would become by the way I handled the persecution. Through each storm, through all the rejection, through all the acts of hatred performed against me, God would always—and still does—warn me to be on the watch.
Watch how you handle this!
Watch how you treat people in return for the suffering they put you through.
Watch out that you don’t become begrudging.
Watch so that you do not become bitter.
And He would constantly refine my mind with the question, Can you still pray for this person after they have done that?
My reply is Yes, LORD.
We must be persistent in not letting anything fester. God made this clear. Why? Because having a big heart works both ways: it can hurt as much and as deep as it loves, especially when we do not properly discern the call of God on our lives. We must understand that
