Purification, Purpose, Plan - Dedra Veronica
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my mother and brother. You have always loved and supported me. I am a better person because of you. I love you very much.
Introduction
The words we speak can either lift us up or tear us down. Words are powerful. Words have the power to build nations and have the power to destroy nations. Our words have more effect than we think. The Bible says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
(Proverbs 18:21, KJV). There is no doubt that words can kill dreams, break hearts, and destroy destinies. How are you using your words?
I have loved writing since I was a child and was always fascinated with putting the thoughts in my mind onto paper. I won a writing assignment in fifth grade, getting a $25 gift card to a toy store. Before then, I wrote a short book and got to read it in front of my whole class. I was amazed to see how my writing could affect other people. It was not until I was in middle school that I learned to write poetry. Poetry opened up my heart to release things that I did not know were inside. It gave me freedom to be free.
Time and time again, God has used poetry to release what is being held inside of me. Struggles, trials, pain, and tears have all been communicated through poetry as well as joy, triumph, and victory. God’s words spoke the world into its very existence. What if God never spoke those words? Would we even exist?
This book is meant to help you release whatever is held up inside of you. Release it. Release it to God. Allow these poems to nourish your soul and to encourage you in your circumstance. God loves you where you are right now. He knows your beginning, end, past, and future. He loves you in each and every moment. If you can’t speak what you want to say, write it.
The poems were given to me by God speaking to my heart. He allows me to feel what I am going through, become stronger through it, so then someone like you can read these poems and find comfort. You are not alone in your life. God is always with you.
God purifies us so we can become like gold after we have been put through the fire. He has a purpose for our purification and for our lives. His plan includes purpose and purification for us to become who we are meant to be. I come back to these things often. I know God continues to mold me and shape me. I know He has a purpose for everything I go through. I know His plan is greater than anything I can imagine.
His plan shall succeed. God’s purpose for your life shall be made known. God’s purification for you will manifest. His words will come to pass.
Part I: Purification
Purify Me
Purify me, Oh Lord.
Have your way.
We say these words, but do we really mean it?
I mean, yes, we all want the finished product, but the process is the part we all want to skip.
You can’t have cake without the ingredients.
You need every step to be accomplished in order to have the end result but no, let’s skip that.
Why do I need to wait for my promises to be fulfilled? Why can’t I have it now?
David waited in the wilderness, Abraham and Sarah waited to see their one and only child, and Joseph was in prison before his dream was fulfilled, but God, I rather have my cake now.
You’re telling me it’s not time yet?
But God, I am ready now. I’m ready to see all I want to see.
Purification, preparation, personified in our glorious King.
Purify me, I say, but my lips are just speaking.
Let my heart be aligned with your wants, and let my heart believe in your desires for me.
Pretty please, my perfect king, purify me.
Let me be a special utensil for good use in your kingdom.
For far too long, I’ve tried it on my own.
My works never got me to the promised land but caught me stuck in a cycle of constant repentance.
I believe you purify me for a purpose, a plan far beyond my wildest dreams, and I believe this is only the beginning of you purifying me.
Excuses
Admit it. It takes at least three or five or maybe even seven
Alarms to get you out of bed in the morning.
Don’t lie. You know you hit that snooze button over and over again
Because you desperately need that extra amount of sleep,
So, you start to imagine what the circumstances will be if you
Stay in bed just a little longer.
You figure everything will be okay, and you can still make it
To where you need to go on time.
Perfect! Yes, ten more minutes! Ten more minutes
Of no responsibility, no work, no activity, no nothing.
Just comfy sheets, a soft pillow, and a tender mattress.
Your alarm goes off once again.
Oh, God. No more excuses.
You get up; you start getting ready,
And by the time you’re halfway done, you realize, Oh man,
I have only five minutes until my It’s time to go
alarm goes off,
And now you got to rush. Now you got to speed up.
Rushing out of the house, it’s easy to forget something and leave it behind,
So, you check three times to make sure you have everything before you leave,
And now you’re feeling good.
You’re driving to your destination, and it’s all good.
Oh, but wait, did you forget about that project you were supposed to finish three weeks ago?
You know, the one that your boss told you to do,
And oh wait, didn’t you say you were going to do that one thing,
For that one person, but never did it?
Because I don’t know. Excuses! Excuses! Excuses!
How long will it take you to realize you make them?
Until you realize, what have you been complaining about this whole time?
If you would have just done what you were supposed to do in the first place.
Why? Why do we make excuses? What stops us from anything?
What holds us back? Is it fear?
Oh, fear! That’s what it could be.
Are you scared of the outcome or what someone might say?
That’s why you didn’t follow through?
Oh, that’s right, because you don’t want anyone to judge or laugh at you,
So, let’s not try at all.
But where’s your confidence?
Where’s that thing in you that says, I believe I can do it.
No, no, no, I can’t do it, I can’t do this, I can’t, I won’t, I’m not.
I’m just full of doubt, full of disbelief, full of myself.
Not knowing that things have a cause and effect,
Because my excuse got the best of me,
I’m never gonna know what could be.
