The Private Investigator 4 - Jamell Crouthers

    Introduction

This book will be highly sensitive subject matter. I write this introduction because this is a topic that does not get enough discussion in today’s world and that is workplace harassment, sexual assault and rape. This is not easy to write about but I felt it was important to let you all know that this will have strong language and content that if you are sensitive to, please don’t read this. This is to shine light on workplace environments and how they need to change. Thank you.

    Jenny's Story

My story begins the day I walked into the police academy,

After all of the paperwork and psychological exams, I was accepted.

I was accepted into this brotherhood that I would soon find out,

Is exactly what it is, a brotherhood, nothing more than that.

Women just have to fall in line, well at least in this police department,

I’m not necessarily saying all other police departments operate like this.

I walked into a misogynistic, chauvinistic culture of inappropriate behavior,

That was taken lightly and never addressed no matter what I did.

You eventually hear every aspect of my story from my perspective,

How some women took it like a grain of salt and kept things moving.

They were only focused on the job and protecting the public,

Not what went on behind closed doors in offices in the precinct.

From the get go it was drilled into our minds to protect each other,

At any cost, which was the underlying tone of, never snitch on anyone.

What I came to understand was that it wasn’t just the oath we took as officers,

It also applied to our morals, values, ethics and behavior as human beings.

It went beyond the blue uniforms that we wear every single day,

It was about power, control and being vigilantes whenever the hell we wanted.

See, I was sexually harassed, groped, berated and a plethora of other things,

That spoke to how some of these little boys we consider men act on a daily basis.

Not only that, I was drugged and then sexually assaulted and raped by my own,

The same men who investigate cases of this magnitude on a daily basis.

I will speak on that and the insensitivity of some male officers regarding these cases,

Only to find out they have committed these heinous acts themselves but were absolved from it.

This chauvinistic behavior goes on in various police departments across the country,

It’s just time I share my story and it’s sure to be an emotional rollercoaster so be prepared.

Due to all that has gone on, I’ve lost my job, suffer from PTSD,

Along with that, I’m on psych medication to keep myself sane from day to day.

I was on the verge of suicide until my mother saved me from that ill-fated downfall,

To add fuel to the fire, the men who did this shit to me are still walking free as if nothing ever happened.

This is sadly my reality and what I’m faced with after all is said and done,

A civil lawsuit and my saviors of Gary and Joe fully investigating what has happened to me.

See the thing is, I should’ve ran the moment I stepped into that police academy,

But my heart wanted to wear the blue so badly but I paid a huge price.

My saving grace was I experienced all of this to shine light on hidden truths,

Of what goes on behind the scenes of some
