    God's Girl - Beth Hey

    Introduction

Don’t you just love talking with your friends? Or when your bestie is planning her birthday party, you can’t wait for that invite to arrive. You probably check every day!

Why? Because you can’t wait to go, and your friend wants you to be part of her special celebration. You both know that it won’t be the same without you.

For just a moment, imagine you have a heavenly invite. Open it, and read what it says . . .

    Please Come

    You’re Invited!!

    Who? You and God

What? Discovering Me, Knowing God, Making Friends

Where? A comfy spot at home or at church

    When? Weekly

Why? Matthew 7:7 says, Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

How? Discover truths about yourself, God, and others through quizzes, the Bible, sharing, and discussing together.

    Me?

    My Own Best Friend?

Kaylee was nervous as she stood on the blue gym mat. It was finally her turn. She reminded herself that she had begged her mom to sign her up for gymnastics. As her teacher boosted her onto the beam, it looked very narrow. Watching girls compete on TV had been entirely different than this! They made it look so easy.

Kaylee knew that keeping her balance would take complete concentration. She blocked everything else out—the girls waiting their turn, her teacher next to her, and even the butterflies in her stomach. All she focused on was walking on the beam and her goal, to stay balanced and reach the end without falling off.

This week, we’re going to talk about a different kind of balance that’s sometimes just as tricky—loving ourselves without becoming proud or self-centered.

If you answered Yes to any of those questions, that’s probably why you enjoy each other. Friends make life fun. They encourage us and cheer us on. We’re going to talk about friends later in this book. If you answered, No, we’ll look at how to nurture good relationships. But before we talk about being someone else’s friend, we’re going to talk about the friendship that God wants you to have with yourself.

    Read Mark 12:28-31.

Write verse 31 on the lines below:

Who does Jesus say you are to love first?

According to verse 31, who are you to love after God? Circle your answer . . .

    My neighbor Myself

Who does verse 31 say that I’m supposed to love my neighbor like?

If you circled both, you’re right! Does that surprise you?________________

Jesus said, you’re not only supposed to love your neighbor—you’re supposed to love yourself! Why would God want us to love
