About this ebook

The "WLW Romance Shorts" is a series of shorts featuring cozy, contemporary love stories of women falling for one another against the backdrop of San Francisco. These sweet, quick reads are perfect for a lunchtime escape or one last indulgence before bed.

The first in the series is "Jessie's Lie". When Jessie McMahon gets the incredible opportunity to write a series of articles that take a first person view of what it's like to  particpate in the Alcatraz swim from island to shore she jumps at the chance. The two-mile open water challenge seems like the perfect way to make her mark as a sports writer. But  there's one snag. When she got the gig, she forgot to tell her boss she couldn't swim.

Kylie Night is hired by the magazine Jessie writes for to mentor a swimmer preparing for the Alcatraz swim. As a swimming instructor and local swim champion, Kylie is happy to help. But the job changes when she discovers that her prodigy can't swim at all. But starting from the beginning with the beautiful, talented Jessie isn't such a chore for Kylie.

Jessie's Lie will lead to the opportunity to overcome her greatest fears and insecurities and find, not only her own courage, but also a once-in-a-lifetime love.

A WLW Romance Short by Benna Bos

    I’m going to die.

    The probability is high.

Jessie pushed her elbow into Mike’s ribs. Not helpful.

Ouch. I’m still tender. Mike rubbed at his chest, reminding her that he was still tender after his top surgery.

Sorry. Sorry. Jessie ripped her gaze away from the insanity in front of her to check on her best friend.

It’s okay. At least I didn’t sign up for this. Mike gestured to the people flailing in the water. There isn’t enough money in the world to get me in there.

Again. Thanks for your support. Jessie turned her head back and lifted up her sunglasses, gazing out at the chaos. Mike wasn’t wrong. This was straight crazy.

The call of the gulls nearby were slowly eclipsed by the sound of water splashing as the swimmers drew closer to their safe spot on the beach. Jessie rubbed her flip-flop in the sand, allowing a pile of the grainy stuff to breach the rubber toe and worm its way under her foot.

Look at that one in front. They aren’t playing.

Jessie followed Mike’s arm and pointed his finger toward a figure carving their way through the choppy water of the San Francisco Bay ahead of the rest of the pack.

Damn. Are they going to win?
