Introduction
Lights, camera, action!
In the words of Oscar winning American actor Matthew McConaughey, Alright, Alright, Alright.
³
Here we go.
Self-help aisles at the bookstore are more crowded than ever before with books that sell everything from confidence to character. There are so many fantastic personal-development books that contain powerful messages.
So why did I decide to write another one?
When I started my personal-development journey, it was frustrating to read 350 pages of repetitive concepts with no do-ing
; I needed that call to action. If you feel the same way, OFP is that call.
Action sheets at the end of every week require you to take inventory, a term you will come across regularly in this book. What does it mean to take inventory? It means looking fearlessly—even ruthlessly if necessary—at ourselves inside and out. The deeper we are willing to go, the more we will receive in return.
What is so exciting about the eight-week program is that you do not live through my journey, you create your own. When I started the program, I did not begin documenting what I was doing until the fourth week. It was a personal project to record my progress, and I had no intention of publishing it. I was only willing to share it with a close group of friends. Once the eight weeks were over and I experienced the results, I knew I had to share it with the world.
To be completely honest, when I started the eight-week program, my life was not in shambles. I had a great job, an amazing girlfriend, and family and friends who loved me. Unfortunately, this is not the heart-pounding tale of a man holding a gun to his head who, right before pulling the trigger, sees a picture of his daughter hanging from the rearview mirror and decides to turn his life around, become an amazing dad and all-around good guy. I love that guy by the way, and I wish him all the best. My problem was that I had become comfortable and complacent. It was this very comfort and complacency that frustrated me to the point where I knew I had to do something.
And I did.
By using the principles of this program, I knew what I needed to do to breakthrough when comfort and complacency came knocking on my door.
So how does it work?
Each chapter is based on the week’s focus and varies in lessons and action. Some of the insights came to me at the end of a week while other weeks the message was clear immediately and all I needed to do was execute. I took each week in stride and identified the core messages that had the power to change my life. Then I took that learning and infused it into my routine.
Every. Single. Day.
Each week is NOT meant to be isolated from the rest of the program. To feel and experience the real benefits, we must carry every week’s learning on to the following one. Some of the weeks will consist of actual work, whereas others will help us to create awareness so we can reframe a perspective or belief that causes us
