Introduction
Eating a plant-based diet might seem like the hardest thing you could possibly do, especially if you’ve eaten meat and animal products your whole life. A plant-based diet is one that is primarily focused on vegetables, fruits, and legumes, with very little focus (if any at all) on products that come from animals. While you will see the odd animal product throughout the recipes in this book, you will find that each recipe is also perfect for plant-based customizations.
There are so many reasons to change one’s diet these days, especially with so many synthetic foods, pumped-up animal products, and hormones in foods widely available in today’s markets.
The current Western diet is so full of things like dairy, processed foods, cholesterol, and animal protein, it can seem impossible to pull yourself away from that kind of regimen. It can also seem impossible to keep your health in balance and to keep your body feeling its best.
By eating foods that nourish the body, it’s far easier to prevent harmful health situations like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and so many more from forming. Eating only the foods that are best for us, however, can seem like punishment when we’re used to the cheesy, greasy, and processed foods that we’ve relied on for sustenance all our lives. Those of us who turn to food for comfort might even feel a little bit lost because it’s hard to feel comforted by a nice, cool salad.
Looking through the usual recipe websites might leave you feeling as though living a plant-based lifestyle is simply too involved, too expensive, too difficult, and too flavorless. There are an overwhelming number of blogs dedicated to recipes with no flavor or, in the alternative, recipes that are bursting with flavor, but involving up to three hours of prep! Who’s got that kind of time? Who has the ironclad will to drive them to eat unflavored tofu and steamed vegetables for dinner instead of springing for some tacos?
In this book, you will find chapters dedicated to bringing as much flavor to every single dish as possible.
For many in today’s society, basic nutrition has given way to the processed foods and animal products that are most heavily advertised, leaving so many of us overweight, ill, and fighting the urge to eat more and more of those products. It can seem like there just aren’t any viable options for a better dietary regimen. Luckily, this isn’t the case, and with so many chefs dedicating themselves to the pursuit of a healthful life as well as dynamic, natural flavors, there are more options today than ever before.
Did you know that eating a plant-based diet can drastically reduce your chances of developing Type-2 diabetes and even reverse it? There are countless benefits that one can get by basing his/her entire diet on plants and whole foods.
This book was created with only the most up-to-date information and cutting-edge nutrition-counting technology. It contains the most valuable recipes for every plant-based eater or even just people who wish they could have a little bit more flavor in their lives.
There are thousands of people who never thought they would be able to live on a plant-based diet. To many, it just seems like a very persnickety way of eating that only makes it harder to order at restaurants and costs a lot of money... However, as more and more people are learning about what goes into the creation of animal products, as more people are experiencing the maladies and complications that can come from years of continued use of those products, more and more people are finding that the plant-based lifestyle is really the best possible way to get the most out of life! People are abandoning eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, meat, and other animal products in droves these days because they simply aren’t as nourishing as we were once led to believe! You can discover what your body needs and craves most when you finally break your ties with these products.
It’s my promise to you that, even if you’re not able to commit to a 100% plant-based diet, you will find at least 30 recipes in this book that will change things in your kitchen. It’s my promise to you that, if you are 100% plant-based, that these flavors will change the way your family and friends view your cooking and your regimen, and they might even be willing to incorporate more animal-free meals into their own regimens.
You will notice some animal products in these recipes! These are the recipes that are great to start with if you’re working on weaning yourself off of those products, while others can use plant-based substitutions.
Stop settling for foods that make you feel sluggish, sick, and unwell. Start eating the foods that will make you feel superhuman, and that will give you the best possible chance to keep yourself healthy and fight off the diseases that claim hundreds of thousands of lives every year! You can do it, and there’s no time like the present!
Continue reading right now to get the best information on your new regimen along with all the best recipes to get you started right now!
Chapter 1: Plant-Based FAQ
What is a Whole Food, Plant-Based diet?
A wholefood, plant-based diet is one that is focused on eating foods that are not processed, which are healthy for you and your body, and which contain little to no animal products. Some are more committed than others to that last bit, but we all do what we can and what is best for us!
Is a Plant-Based diet good for weight loss?
It certainly can be! Bear in mind that there are plenty of natural starches, fats, sugars, and carbohydrates. If you’re looking to lose weight, then you will want to keep an eye on these components and your macronutrients to make sure that you’re eating the right amount to lose weight while you’re on a plant-based diet. It’s certainly easier to lose weight on a plant-based diet than it is while eating processed foods and animal products!
Do I need to dedicate a lot of time to cooking and meal prep?
You can put just as much work and prep into your diet as you want to! If you only want to do a little prep, then I recommend overnight oats, as they involve very little prep work, yet yield delicious meals!
Is a plant-based diet good for my health?
Absolutely! Eating lots of fruits and veggies can help you to get more of the nutrients you need to help you with good health. If you’re not sure how eating plenty of fruits and vegetables can help your health, take a look at all the vitamins and minerals they contain, then do some research on how those vitamins and minerals can help your body!
Will a plant-based diet cure my diabetes?
While your doctor should absolutely be at the helm of helping you to overcome things like Type 2 diabetes, you should know that eating healthy vegetables and lots of nutrient-rich foods can help you to lose weight, helping you to turn things around with regard to your health. As many doctors will tell you, a balanced, healthy diet is the best possible way to reverse Type 2 diabetes! Just do so in consultation with your health care professional.
Is it hard to get enough protein with a plant-based diet?
Not if you know where to look! Make sure that you’re monitoring the nutrients in the food that you’re eating and getting enough of the foods that typically yield protein. Beans, tofu, and certain vegetables have protein in them, and you can always opt for a powdered protein supplement if you would like to add even more to your diet.
Do I have to cut out all animal products while doing a plant-based diet?
Flexitarian, Semi-Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Vegetarian, Vegan.
You don’t need to, if you’re not comfortable doing it! The idea of a plant-based diet is that plants are the center of your diet and that you’re getting most of what you need from those plants. If you would like to keep using some animal products, you can absolutely do that. Here is some information on the varying degrees of a plant-based life.
A Flexitarian or Semi-Vegetarian is someone who eats mostly plants, but who will sometimes eat meat and animal products.
A Pescatarian is someone who eats mostly plants, but who also eats fish.
A Vegetarian is someone who eats mostly plants but doesn’t hold back on some animal products like cheese and sometimes eggs.
A Vegan is someone who eats mostly plants and no animal products but doesn’t have restrictions on processed foods such as corn chips, dairy-free cookies, and the like.
The whole point of a plant-based diet is to cut as much unnecessary stuff out of your diet as possible and to leave you feeling your best!
What if I’m not ready to cut out animal products?
Consider a gradual approach to cutting out animal products! Back it down bit by bit and cut things out only as you are comfortable doing so. You might find that you’re okay to cut out every single animal product in your life except for eggs. That’s totally fine and, if you get to a 100% plant-based regimen over time, then that’s great! If not, then that’s fine, too!
