2020 - Sylvie Lemieux
Abstract
It could have been a self-help book. It could have been a travel guide. It could have been a friendship story of two souls testing new stability in a world gone wild. Instead, this short story is about how two friends have woven their questions about the unknown and multilayered threat of COVID-19 into an aspirational organic enfoldment of coping mechanisms and resilience skills.
In this dialectic chronicle, discover how Leonard and Emma, two charming souls, have grown and learned to leverage ‘Covidian’ challenges to transform themselves into catalysts for their increased fondness for humanity. Follow their stories as they travel during the onset of the pandemic, then throughout the first wave, rest over the summer break, and now, as they brace themselves for the second wave.
Which part of you is Leonard or Emma? Follow their thoughts to rise above all present-day fears.

Dedication
To Humanity in the midst of COVID
Chapter 1. In the Beginning
Emma - Don’t go thinking that we are walking about as citizens with the virus, spraying its net wider and wider across town. However, we must admit to being rebels because we choose how to behave with COVID and we wanted our story recorded. Now our story is not for the faint of heart because we belong to this exclusive ‘school’. How can we describe this? I guess we could say it is a school not unlike Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, but without a magic portal in the O-Train system … then again, there are many similarities…
Leonard - We see the magic behind the veil of our 1% plane. What we see and know, as we know it, is only 1% of all that really exists. We can’t quite ride on brooms but we apply the essence of the infinity pendulum to our actions, words, and lives. Once we drank from the Goblet of Fire, there was no going back, ever. We know the blame game has never brought anything useful into our dimension. The universe has created this situation to help us, and ultimately, because it has a mind of its own. It has rules, much like give and take, that help us create our own reality. We are the Sorcerer’s Stone; we are the magic.
The challenge of this 1% is also an inner call to outgrow our fears, triggers, and stories to find Rumi’s Pearl … such an incredible, sometimes maddening, painful, and blissful dare. Rumi was a Persian poet and Sufi master born in 1207. Rumi’s Pearl could be defined as the alchemists’ philosopher’s stone of the alchemists or the Christ Consciousness of the believers.
So, there are a few actions that we must take as students of this unusual school, but I’m going too fast. How are we expected to write this e-book if we gave you a summary of fewer than two pages? How can you appreciate the struggles and the wins of a COVID rebel if we speed through our quests? No, no worries. Life is too exciting, and one must go to the depth of their emotions if one is to feel alive, so come along with us for this tale of wonders.
You want to open your mind, truly. Your mind must be like that of a child who doesn’t know yet what ‘adults’ have labelled as real, unreal, possible, impossible… It is a task harder than most believe it to be, but it is the first and most basic one. For instance, when told ‘Everything happens for a reason’, a lot of people dismiss it, and sometimes even get mad. They are closed to that possibility, to that explanation of something they might not even want to actually know or accept as is. You must also know that not everything can be explained.
You want to open your heart, truly. Your heart must be like that of a wild animal who lives by the ebb and flow of nature, who lives this truth because it is the only reality it is exposed to. It understands that we are all one. It knows love in its purest form and that it is the driving force of all well-functioning, joyous life.
You want to open your third eye, truly. This is almost like a sixth sense. It is your capacity for vision and comprehension of all things psychic. It is also our connecting switch to the invisible world, the ‘99%’. We are all one because we are all made of frequencies. What most call ‘real’, as in what the human eye can perceive, is but 1% of our reality. The truth is that our dimension encompasses much, much more than that. We are made of vibrating atoms, and so is everything around us, both perceptible and imperceptible with the five senses as defined by science. Everything from cars to thoughts and feelings is vibration, frequencies. When the mind, heart, and third eye are open, just ‘being’ becomes the only sensible action.
As students of this special school, we were quite intrigued by the challenges of the unknown phenomena called COVID-19. How were we to negotiate the changes?
So here our stories of rebellion. I am Emma and I am the eldest. When COVID hit in December 2019, I decided to monitor it, as I was not sure if it was real or a machination of some sort. I was a bit concerned because I had a trip coming up in February 2020 to visit Bali for the first time. As I work for the government, I also had colleagues travelling around the world who would come back and tell us of their own appreciation of the situation. But things started to become real for us as one younger colleague returned from a visit with his parents in China over the Christmas holidays. We were now getting insider information and it was surreal.
I am Leonard. When I came back from Argentina in early January 2020, everything was fine. I had had a bad throat ache at the beginning of my trip but after taking a few penicillin pills, I was fine. February arrived and I started making new travel plans for the coming Summer and possibly Spring, too. In mid-March, my brother and I made arrangements to see each other in Montreal, where he lives with his kids. He cancelled three days before then, saying things were getting serious and suggested I cancel my trip, too. I told him it was a shame and that we would get together later. He figured out that that meant
