Julie Lomax

Many of the stories Julie writes about are extensions of her families’ wild and made-up stories, travels and misadventures. Julie admits she has always enjoyed reading, anything from classics to comic books. Her favorites were mysteries and romances.    Known for her wit and storytelling, Julie wrote as a hobby and presented many stories to friends and families as reading gifts. Her background is different from most writers in that she devised, revised and taught obstetrical, gynecology and neonatal classes for registered nurses, deployed and served as a nurse during mass casualty operations. She has worked as a health care administrator for a regional hospital and operated several services as an advance nurse practitioner in midwivery. She has additional years of experience as a Chief Nurse Officer for inpatient hospitals and outlying clinics. She has written several educational and training programs, in-services, grants, pamphlets and has been a co-editor and reviewer on several research proposals and papers. Since her retirement from the Army Nurse Corps, Julie decided to refocus her energies on the stories she has written and share them.

Paying Attention

The first day of school was finally here! Moo Moo’s mother woke her up early and made a breakfast of warm oats. Yummy!  She gobbled down her meal and polished it off with a refreshing drink of water. Her mother reminded her to use the napkin to wipe her mouth and to brush her teeth. Moo Moo finished getting dressed.

Moo Moo’s mother had taken her to get a new cowbell and collar in preparation for school. The collar and bell were large and red. Red was Moo Moo’s favorite color. Her mother fastened the bell around Moo Moo’s neck. It made her feel pretty.  Moo Moo also had her hooves polished and hair cut too.

For weeks, Moo Moo had been talking with her friends about school. When the first day of school arrived, Moo Moo ran out of the stall door and met her friends in the school’s playground. Looking around, it was great to see the schoolyard filled with many other animal friends who were there to learn. Her best friend Abby, who had a brand-new yellow bell around her neck, ran up to Moo Moo, and they walked in together.  The older, wiser cow who had helped Moo Moo with self-confidence was standing at the door and smiled as Moo Moo walked through.
