PREFACE
We live in a world of fad diets and one-week fixes, and the sheer number of available slimming options can be overwhelming. It seems like every day, someone concocts a potion, pill, or workout regimen that is sure to get you to that perfect size. But that’s the problem. As much as these methods work, most of them are straight out unhealthy and, most importantly, not sustainable in the long term. That’s why people gain weight within weeks or months of getting out of the routine. I could give so many examples in this case, with one being the cabbage soup diet. Surely, how can you stay hooked to a diet that requires you to eat nothing but cabbage soup? Let’s start with the fact that you would be nutrient deficient and probably be in the doctor’s office every week. Even if you kept at it, how long would it be before you got tired of such a bland diet?
Quick fixes do not work, and I cannot begin to stress this enough. If you want results, you have to put in the work. And no, I am not talking about hitting the gym hard as if your life depends on it. Instead, you need to change your lifestyle and take it from there. Sustainability is the key here. If you cannot avoid gluten for the rest of your life, do not do it now and expect the results to last in the long term. That’s the point of this book- to show you how to live a healthy life. When you are healthy, everything else follows. Looking into the future enables you to achieve short-term goals without even realizing it. Not sure what this means?
Here’s an example many people can relate to because they have been here and done it. If you work towards having a good summer body, you will lift weights, do cardio, eat right and finally get those abs, right? But what’s next? You already have the body you want. So, is there a point to keep doing it? Most people stop here, and the following year, they are at it again, trying to lose the weight they gained over the winter. It’s a cycle that never seems to end and one which fad diet marketers capitalize on. They know their clients will be back the next season, hoping to get another quick fix and willing to splurge some cash on it. It’s a stable market that any unscrupulous person can exploit. When it comes to sustainability, that is an ever-stable business because it will exist until almost everyone changes their mindset on weight and health in general.
However, when you focus on the long term, things are different. Suppose you decide you want to lead a healthy life, you will start watching what and how you eat, when you work out, the people around you, and will lead an overall balanced life. Even when on vacation, you will already be in the habit of eating clean and will not go overboard with the desserts. For this reason, the abs will come on their own, and so will those firm glutes and bounce in your step. By looking at the big picture, everything else falls into place. Can you see the difference? Can you see where people get it wrong? Have you been guilty of taking the shortcut?
