Korah walked in rebellion. Moses walked in holiness. The choice is ours as well.

Korah walked in rebellion. Moses walked in holiness. Too many times we look at holiness in a manner that we are better than others, thinking, "I am holy." This is what Korah did, he saw himself "holier than thou." He walked in that attitude and

    INTRODUCTION

A Call to Listen to God!

Hebrews 12:14 (KJV) Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Hebrews 12:14-15 (NLT) Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

Hebrews 12:14 (AMP) Continually pursue peace with everyone, and the sanctification without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.

Only God knows holiness, but it is something He infuses in me to seek after daily.

To follow means to go or come after (a person or thing proceeding ahead); move or travel behind; come after in time or order; to engage in as a calling or way of life: PURSUE, to accept as authority: OBEY, to copy after: IMITATE, to watch steadily; to keep the mind on; to follow an example

Perfection cannot come in and of ourselves, we all fall short of God’s glory, but God’s holiness is something we must chase after. Being Christlike should be our heart’s desire, because in Him I am made perfect, holiness is a process in our lives. But comes at the moment of salvation.

Numbers 16:8 (KJV) "May the LORD make known tomorrow morning who belongs to him and who is the holy one and whom he will have draw near to him! The one whom he chooses, he will have draw near to him.

Numbers 18:7 (KJV) But you and your sons with you must take care to exercise your priesthood in whatever concerns the altar and the area within the veil. I give you your priesthood as a gift.

We must take care to exercise our priesthood realizing holiness is a gift from God which allows the Lord to do what He wants to do in my life, even if it is hard for me. That is when keeping the faith, and knowing that He is always on my side. God’s correction is not condemnation; it is love, grace, and patience, greatly promoting holiness.

Feeling unholy, does happen, it is then that we must not rebel against God. That is when through His shed blood we are made a priest and holy in God’s eyes. God’s grace washes us clean. Too many times we think that we are not worthy of His holiness, but His grace showers us with the very presence of God.

How we act and react is a good place to see where we are in our walk of holiness.

When someone treats me wrong, what is my response?

Am I quick to react poorly? Do I hold bitterness or anger toward that person?

Do I rebel against God and authority? Do I bring others with me?

    What’s my motive?

Do my insecurities cause me to try to please others?

When we walk in a sanctified state of holiness in our everyday life, we are different, and people will see that. The measure of grace we have toward others is not even close to the unfailing grace God has toward us.

Moses had confidence in who he was in the Lord. He prayed and waited, he loved and wanted to serve and please the people, but he loved and wanted to serve and please God more.

We are Christians, and others are looking at us. They should see Jesus walking in and through us! Just like the Israelites saw in Moses.

Too many times we think that God’s grace cannot cover what we have done, but He is all merciful and does cover our every thought, deed, and action with the grace that flows from Jesus though the power of the Holy Spirit.

Holiness is God’s grace flowing in my life. It is up to me to see that and to respond to it.

Sanctify means to be set apart from a profane to a sacred use. I was profane in my past. I cussed all the time and did things that were not good. So many times, I think back to who I was, and I am so grateful for Jesus Christ saving me, turning me from my rebellious nature, and sanctifying me.

Holiness means to be separated from the unclean and unholy things, a moral and responsible life of godly conduct. An inward condition of the heart to turn from sin and rebellion and turn to righteousness and justice. When we come to faith in Christ, we change. To know holiness is to know God, and to know God is to know Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit living in me. Knowing who God is and who I am in Christ is the most important thing I will ever do in my life.

Ephesians 5:8-10 (NIV) For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.

The Spirit of God dwells in me, so when I live in the spirit, the very presence of God envelops me and His Holy Spirit engages the well of my soul to line up with His Spirit, shining a new light, reflecting what is good and right and true, this is the process of holiness!

Perfecting holiness can only be done through knowing who Christ is and acknowledging who I am in Him.

Christ in me, the hope of glory, is why I am holy!

    CHAPTER 1

    Rebellion: The Opposite of Holiness

Leviticus 11:45-47 (AMPC)For I am the Lord Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God; To make a difference (a distinction) between the unclean and the clean.

To make a difference between rebellion and holiness, wrong and right.

That is what holiness is: seeing the difference between wrong and right and doing right because loving the Lord more than self or things of this world. I cannot serve two masters! My heart burns with a deep desire to know Him more and more and following His path of holiness. The word speaks of a Highway of Holiness; a road that leads to holiness is a journey, looking along the way to find the path that leads to Him.

The first reference of holiness in the Word comes from Exodus 15:11-12 (KJV)Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you—majestic, glorious in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? Thou stretched out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

Majestic in Holiness, infinitely glorious in this attribute, essential to the perfection of the Divine nature. We are humans and do not possess, in the natural, these divine attributes. We are selfish by nature and need to be taught the right ways of the Lord.

The story of The Rebellion of Korah relates these truths.

God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt and here they are again complaining against God.

Numbers 16:1-3 (KJV) Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men; and they rose up before Moses with some of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the congregation, representatives of the congregation, men of renown. They gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, You take too much upon yourselves, for all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?

The men rose up early in the darkness of early morning, there was a rebellion on the rise, and the craftiness of man and Satan was coming to life. Evil men will do things in secret, when it is still dark, so others cannot see what they are doing, why? Because they know it is wrong and feel the need to hide. They got together and talked about what they wanted many times before this morning.

2 Timothy 2:14 (AMP) Remind the people of these facts, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God to avoid petty controversy over words, which does no good, and [upsets and undermines and] ruins [the faith of] those who listen.

Our words and thoughts can ignite a fire in the hearts of others, whether good or bad. When we allow the voice of others to put a spark in our hearts, it can turn into a flame very fast and eventually grow into a forest fire. The spark of rebellion is one that burns up everything is its path, and the only thing that is left is ashes. There are three things that petty conversations do, does no good, upsets and undermines the truth and ruins the faith of those who listen. Korah’s words are about to do all three.

In the darkness of his mind is when the plan was put into action. Before there is a revolt, there is an action plan that starts with a thought.

We must be quick to have an action plan of God’s Word in our Spirit so we can put out the fire by the washing of the Word. This was not just a fly-by-night thing that they said I’m tired of Moses; let’s get him no, this had been festering in the hearts of these men, and they were talking amongst the people and gathering a small army to come against the Lord’s anointed. Both Moses and Aaron were the subject of their grievances. They wanted to be the leader and the high priest. The coup had begun, and they thought they were better than Moses and Aaron. So why not us? The king of their heart was not God, but self, by the way of jealousy.

Jealousy in any form will cause destruction if we allow it to rule our hearts and minds. Too many times we allow the enemy to fill our hearts with jealousy and envy for what we think we should have, but God in His infinite mercy has jealousy for us. He corrects us to see His plan. The choice is then up to us. Do we really want to be Holy?

He sees all and knows us deep in our hearts and souls, which is our minds, wills, and emotions. When we seek to allow the Holy Spirit to change us, we are then walking in holiness. Too many times we think we can hide things from God, but He sees all we do. The reason He says, Be Ye Holy for I am Holy is He knows we need to be taught to follow the Lord our God, instead of man.

So in their deceit, they went to Moses and said, Who gives you the right to rule over us? They were talking for everyone, but everyone was not on board or even knew what they were up to. We are all holy. What makes you better than us? They thought they were better than the one that the Lord had chosen and anointed to be His leader. God had raised Moses and Aaron up to these high places, not man. But man was trying to be like God.

Moses saw that their accusations were false and lies, but he also saw the true motivation of their heart that was compelling them to rise up. Some wanted power and others wanted the priesthood.

When we have a thought we must bring it to the Lord like Moses did, not allowing our own thoughts to rule our minds. A thought can do so much damage or good. Too many times we can talk ourselves out of anything, by the way of reasoning. Walking in self-control and prepareing our minds for action, so our hearts and minds will line up with His thoughts and actions!

Korah was not satisfied with what the LORD had called him to. He was a Levite who took care of the most holy things of the temple.

He did not work alone. They already had responsibilities of their own but envy of Aarons calling caused them to revolt and rebel. He had others who came alongside him to encourage to move forward with his plan, and we too have someone who comes along side to build us up. He is the Holy Spirit, Parakletes in Greek, which means to come along side and help. When others help us to fuel evil, a rebellion this gets inside of our head. He allowed this position to go to his head, by accusing Moses of pride and self-centered leadership (which, in fact, was what he chose) and wanted to take over the office of the priesthood. He was hungry to be "holier
