To believers everywhere who have wandered through life in mistaken identity. Hoping for the manifestation of the fullness of all Jesus Christ paid for and bought for us with His blood on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.

My profound thanks are to God, the Father from whom all things are, to Jesus Christ, the Son through whom all things are, and the Holy Spirit by whom all things are. One God, three persons, how awesome. To my beautiful wife, Bridget, who has been my closest friend and confidante. Thanks for your true love and encouragement these twenty-five years of marriage and for helping to inspire me to write again. To all our children, for making life adventurous and fulfilling. For helping in various areas in the ministry, especially Osaefe, for helping with the typing of the early manuscripts of this book. To Love Foundation staff, members, and partners worldwide for your prayers, support, and labor in the kingdom.

I am also grateful to many others from whom I have learned and gleaned the word of God and the principles of the kingdom of God these many years. Prominent among whom are E. W. Kenyon, T. L. Foreword

One of the biggest tragedies in life, especially for a believer, is to not know his or her identity in Christ. And because he or she doesn’t know their identity, they have a misunderstanding of who God is and who they really are.

Not knowing our true identity has hindered us from being all of who we were created to be. We were created to be a reflection of God in the earth. 1 John declares that As Jesus is, so are we in this world.

When mankind fell, it wasn’t just into sin, but everything about him failed. His values, his ideas, his thoughts, and his concepts were all a part of the fall. Jesus comes not only to redeem man but to redeem man’s fallen concepts. God sent Jesus into our world, into our confusion, into our misunderstanding —to reveal things hidden from the foundation of the world. Paul writes to the church in Colossians and unfolds this mystery declaring that it is Christ in you the hope of glory. The expectation of the manifestation of God in you.

In this book, The Identify of The Believer, Osagie Erhabor takes you through the word, line upon line, not only allowing you to discover your identity but also allowing you to discover your authority as a believer. You will discover that you are a part of the great family of God, and God has a special plan for your life. You will discover that by the grace of God, you are who you are. And God wants to reveal His son in you. The information in this book will help you to do life successfully and be all that God has called you to be.

    INTRODUCTION

    Our Identity Defines Our Authority

The Church, which is the body of Christ, was created in Christ Jesus and left on Earth to fulfill a purpose. This purpose, which is to establish the kingdom of God on Earth, take back from the devil all that he stole, and continue what started with Adam in the Garden of Eden. Restoring man back to God’s original intent of power and glory can only be completed when we come to the full realization of our identity as believers and the authority given to us.

Growing up in Africa, my life took a tremendous turn when I gave my life to Christ at the tender age of thirteen. My desire from that moment was to be a good Christian, avoid sin as much as possible, pursue a good career like becoming a medical doctor, and believe that I would make it to heaven. As I began to hang out with other young believers, I realized that being a believer was more than going to church weekly and trying to avoid sin. I realized that every Christian was not only called of God to escape the corruption that is in the world through lust and sin but that we are all called to help others come out too. We are all called to help establish the kingdom of God on the earth.

But how was I to do that? I was the last of ten children of middle-class parents, living in one of the most fetish and underdeveloped cities in my country. My desire to know God and fulfill my calling soared as I began to study the Bible, attend every-possible revival program, and fellowship with other youths that had similar visions and dreams. My spiritual eyes became open after I was filled with the Holy Spirit to understand that I was not just an African teenager now that I had become born-again, but rather a true and living offspring of the Almighty God.

This revelation of my true identity as a believer, though still growing in it, has become a great foundation for my Christian life, has helped me overcome great challenges and has propelled me into my ministry around the world. It has always been my desire to share these truths with every believer, especially those who like me, are desirous of becoming all that God through Christ Jesus has made us be and do all God intended for us to do to establish his kingdom on Earth.

Many books and materials have been written about the authority of the believer, but few are written about the identity of the believer. I believe we can never really understand and use our authority unless we first come to terms with our identity. Our identity defines our authority.

Identity is the characteristics of a person that distinguishes them from others. In other words, your identity is who you are. Your identity is who you were created or made to be while authority speaks of your rights and privileges to control or rule, make decisions, and execute judgments.

This book was written to express what the Bible teaches about the identity of the believer. Never again should we be in doubt as to who we are in Christ. Never again should Christians be afraid to declare their rights, privileges, and authority as believers in Christ Jesus and for all He accomplished for us on the cross.

A number of people may already be familiar with some of the information contained in this book, but I believe that there will be a new light shed on this great topic for many. My desire is that every reader will come to the full understanding of one’s identity in Christ. Thereby, be able to utilize their authority as believers fully and complete the work of preaching the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ throughout the world with signs, wonders, and miracles as He commanded; ushering in the second coming of Christ.

This is obviously not an exhaustive study on this topic, but it should be a great place to start. As you join me in this study, take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit for revelation knowledge. Because only by the Holy Spirit do we receive the divine understanding that changes us into the image of Christ that we see even from glory to Glory.

For as he is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17, KJV)

    Chapter 1

    Identity Crisis

    The World in Darkness

But if our Gospel is hid, it is hid to those who are lost: In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

    (2 Corinthians 4:3–4, KJV)

The whole world without Christ is crazy, blinded by sin, and going on a broad and wide path to hell and destruction (Matthew 7:13). Sin blinds and distorts reality so much that people easily believe a lie and are so convinced that wrong is right and right is wrong that they would fight to protect and propagate a lie. No wonder the devil is called the prince of the kingdom of darkness. Darkness, in this context, is referring to ignorance and deceit by which satan deceives and controls those under his spell.

This is the birthplace of many false and religious beliefs that contradict the gospel of God and Christ. However, even among born-again Christians, there is significant ignorance of the truth concerning the Kingdom of God and
