    Preface

Times Past But Not Forgotten is a walk by faith down memory lane. It is a look back into the life of the author to examine the affects of Biblical faith on his life and those closes to him. The events will not be presented in chronological order but as they are remembered.

The author’s goal in writing this book is to present a teaching on faith and what it can actually accomplish in the life of a believer.

This is a true story. The events described herein are real. They actually happened. Some will be perceived as small and insignificant while others as dynamic, even bordering on miraculous.

Other folks will be included in the discussions as it relates to the application of faith and the Christian Lifestyle.

    Introduction

Do you believe in Time Travel? How wonderful it would be to go back in time and right all the wrongs and change all the events so we would come out of the experiences free of guilt, sorrow or any other form of suffering.

Life has a way of beating us up and leaving us to die, without hope or emotional stability. We grow old and then what? Our future is dim and our memories fad away and then we die…unless we take dominion and continue to live.

Most of the senior folks that I know major on the minors in life. That is to say, they dwell on that which does not exist anymore.

Yes, the hurts were real and the suffering enormous but they all qualify as, "Times Past But Not Forgotten." We hang on to them and rehearse them in our minds re-living them over and over again. Sometimes it’s by choice and other times involuntary through flashbacks from trauma.

As we look back, we will look at the victories, not the defeats. We will try to learn from each encounter thereby establishing a secure foundation.

    Chapter One

    Stinking Thinking

How about if I give you a penny for your thoughts? I’d like to know what you are thinking about. After all I am not a mind reader.

Tell me what you are thinking so I can criticize you for being negative and rude. Isn’t that what is going on inside your head?

Some folks live in a world of negativity that could easily be construed as, Stinking Thinking

I use to be one of those folks. I had a negative outlook on life and saw everything through a selfish egotistical filter. That was a long time ago. I didn’t realize that life could be rewarding and I could be positive in my expectations of it.

The Bible tells us to stop thinking on the negative and otherwise sad things and to dwell on the positive aspects of life. Here’s what the apostle Paul said to the 1st century church:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8

    Paul also instructs the early believers on lifestyle. He says;

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-8

Paul apparently knew that dwelling on good things would keep our hearts vibrant and alive so we could actually experience the abundant life that Jesus spoke of in John 10:10. Read it for yourself:

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that
