About this ebook

We all must face storms in our lives, remember God sees the storms before we even hear the thunder. Stand tall in the storm with faith and it will not overcome you. For anything lost here will be regained in heaven.

I wrote these poems from the heart, based on experiences that I've encountered in life, as well as to others around me. I fe

    Our World Today Through Poetry - Velma Elaine Bowers

    Only See the Heart

    Up in Alaska, there are glaciers melting down;

    Down in the South, storms have left rubble on the ground.

    While out on the West Coast, they are fighting forest fires;

    Down in Louisiana, the water is getting higher.

    Now we’ve had hurricanes, tsunamis, droughts and floods;

    Over across the water, they have had sand mixed with blood.

    In Korea, they say they are building some big bomb.

    While today in Israel, well, things are going wrong.

    If you go to London, you might find bloodstains on the ground,

    From the day that the bombs went off and shut all the subways down.

    Oh, why would someone put their self in harm’s way,

    To take the life of another that they only met that day?

    Now over in China a deadly virus broke out.

    It caused the world to fear and everyone became afraid to go out.

    I think of 2010 over in Haiti when the earth gave a mighty shake,

    Causing tall buildings to crumble and bridges of steel to bend and break.

    Do you remember how the world banded together and helped each other out?

    I know that is what our heavenly Father would want, and I haven’t any doubt.

    Now there are riots over civil unrest and labor disputes all over the United States.

    It’s time to give up all this hate.

    Tonight while we are sleeping, it might start flowing lava rock.

    In the morning when we wake up, we will find all those lives we have lost.

    Now I’m not sure that there’s much that we can do;

    Page for page and word for word, the Bible’s message is coming true.

    Why can’t we stand together under God? It doesn’t matter if we live in the desert sand or on green grass of sod.

    When we look at each other right from the start, Instead of seeing race, creed, sex, or color, why can’t we only see the heart?

    Long Hard Road

    There’s a young girl out in Arizona sitting in front of her TV screen.

    She dreams about the bright lights of Hollywood and the fame and fortune that it brings.

    It’s a long hard road back from California when you’re out of all your hopes and dreams.

    If only, she was sure that she could make it, out there on that big old silver screen.

    There’s a young man up in Montana, and farming is the only life he knows;

    What he would give for a chance to ride the circuit in a game they call the big old rodeo.

    It’s a long hard road back from Wyoming, when you’ve given all your best, or so it seems;

    If only he was sure that he could make it out there with his golden buckle dreams.

    There’s a young girl down in West Virginia, as she sits on her back porch she sings;

    She dreams about the bright lights of Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry, and the fame it brings.

    It’s a long hard road back from Tennessee, when you have lost all your hopes and dreams.

    If only she was sure that she would make it, and the right one would hear her sing.

    There was a young man born into this world many years ago;

    For what came, only His Father did know.

    His Father had a great and wonderful plan;

    In case you did not know, He’s the man that died with nail prints in his hands.

    It’s a long hard road to the life we’re living, and there are changes we must take along the way;

    But if it wasn’t for the ones that take chances, then where would we be this very day?

    Let their memory help you on your way.

    He is Our President

    There is a man that some may hate; because of this, we are now a divided state. But like Cyrus, a Persian king of the Bible long ago, I feel he is guided by God’s hand on which way to go.

    Oh, this world is lost in the dark of night, as they no longer want to hear wrong from right. Throughout the years, I have read the Bible to others and tried. I hope to teach them that an unborn child is still a life, even if it’s never cried.

    Not everyone agrees with all that Trump may say, but remember he is human and faces the same temptations you and I have each day. Now tell me truly, don’t you too know of mistakes you have made?

    It amazes me how often we judge others as if we’ve never lied or done wrong in God’s eyes. No one is perfect my friend, for everyone has surely sinned.

    So please give our president a chance. He has done some wonderful things, and his best is yet to come. He may even go down as one of the greatest ones.

    It is time we worked together, instead of pulling our nation apart. We need to pray for our country with all our hearts.

    The Old Mountain Road

    There’s an old mountain road made mostly of stone; what’s left is a house
