About this ebook
Life and Things comes from th gospels, history, rap, poetry, literature, relegion and some things that my memory has forgotten about. It also shows me that through God, all things are possible. I never knew that I would see a Black man as our President- thank you President Obama. I never thought that I would have to fight for sobriety after fighting in the Vietnam War. Sometime to crawl after i learned to walk, sometimes to cry after a spell of laughter. I pray that whoever has the oppurtunity to read about my life, and to reflect on their lives. It will give us hope, strength and courage to tackle some of our weaknesses in our lives. I can only thank you for reading Life and Things, and pray that I give wisdom to write Life and Things II
Thank you,
Phillip A. Daye

Written: Time during my life when motivation of spirit would wake me during the wee hours of the night to write as the spirit leads
Through the trials and tribulations, joys and laughter we face as human beings in this world we live in today. We whom are so easy to accuse, so easy to condemn, so easy to kill and so easy to hate. I have taken years to compose this book of Life and Things to give all of God’s precious creations to take the time to read, to reflect on memory and to be thankful to God Almighty that gave us this Life and Things. These things don’t come from instantaneous reflections, this comes from years of seeing, years of feeling the pain, years of crying, years of shielding tears, years of laughter and years of thanking God for protecting me even when I didn’t deserve His Grace, and kindness. I now dedicate this book to God Almighty for giving me the insight, knowledge and patience to put my thoughts on paper. To my mother and father and step father Catherine Daye Turrentine, Sam Daye and Douglas Turrentine. To my Aunt Betsy Daye Coley for being my stronghold and mentor always and especially when I needed her most. To my son and daughters: Justin, Tabitha, Tamar, Siyonka, Kysionia, Ebony and Til for understanding and loving me when I didn’t love myself. To my wife, the lady of my life, even through the storms we have faced despite family controversy from both sides; who still loved me and believed in me, When I felt like giving up and not pressing towards the mark; you encourage me to keep going. This beautiful woman I will love now and forever and will always cherish: Mrs. Carol Faye Perry Daye. Otis fought a fight for sixteen years. His dancing with Alvin Ailey, the Cotton Club Movie, Harlem Dancers couldn’t keep him from dancing with the Angels. My brother Otis Mc Donald Daye who dance his last dance on 10.22.94 you will always be remembered. To Reginald Braswell you have always been my son regardless. To my brothers Samuel, Wayne, James and Demetrius who I love dearly. Through this journey called life we have faced a lot of things but now we can make a difference through God and become a light for others.
My mother in law, sister in laws, my cousins whom devotion, understanding and love is unquestionable and took the time from their busy schedules to encourage me to put this manuscript together. I would like to dedicate this book to all my family, friends and associates that Love the Lord.
Life and Things a book of both sides of the fence that I hope and pray that whoever takes the time to read this book that it will bring a smile to your face, hope to your heart and open your minds and eyes to love someone, not just because of color, creed or nationally but because we are all God’s Creations
Life’s Poems
Sitting here tonight thinking of the beautiful journey that God so graciously has blessed us. We are attributed with such luxuries as love, hate, smiles, frowns, goals, defeats, laughter and tears. We are blessed with youth then we age. We are truly blessed to see and sometimes to know that we can make choices in this journey; and I’m grateful to God for forming us from clay and breathing into us this gift called life through His Holy Spirit….Daylight
North Carolina Life
North Carolina born and breed, life for me has gone to my head. I had to survive from the gate, making sure that I arrived at school without being late. I went from the country to the city; yes I had to move, because there were problems in my house that weren’t very cool.
Momma was working hard each and every day while Pops was chilling without a whole lot to say. I can remember getting my first ride, a drop top with rims, I didn’t try to hide. At an early age, yes I learned the game. Started selling stuff undercover, didn’t want to take the blame, rolling fat joints from Columbia gold, until I graduated, and boy almost took my soul. Check myself there’s no time to play, monkey on my back, surrender I didn’t want to say, like a fool I always went back when the popo tried to make a fatal attack. When times, where I was scared and I had to go up the way. Put my car on 85, yes I wasn’t going to play, not realizing at this particular time; indictments were coming, because someone dropped a dime. Now to find myself in jail and wearing stripes, gone to long, someone had my wife. Now I am back feet in the street. I am learning how to live without catching the heat, learning about Jesus and what he had to say. Even learned some steps and went to N/A. Now I see men with a different monkeys on their back. The government has in filtered our neighborhood with a new thing called crack. Now our population has our neighborhood and our women going through hell, while most of our brothers are dying in jail. If you are a new cat on the bloc and can’t quite find your way, you better listen to me and hear what I have to say. Get your head on straight and you won’t have to face this strife, because where I stand, its easy in N.C. Life

Written for My lovely Wife Carol and Girls
Daylight I: During the course of this Day, May God enables me, to shine a little light on you!
I’m going to give you a little information not to extreme, rhythmic vibes that guaranteed hopes, ambitions and dreams. Born in Carolina, noted a Cowboy fan, born TarHeel. In a pretty little city in Oxford, county called Granville. Learned ways of the world early the tricks and trades. Learned honesty, prayer, abcs, respect before playing spades. Learned about cultures in life before it was too late. But one thing I didn’t learn was to player hate.
I hear a lot of rappers from coast to coast and I don’t demonstrate on who I love the most. Learning patience, love, hurt, pain and about death in the life from the crib, even the outcome in life will, if you break the law or steal. I’ve seen a lot of things, I can’t quite understand. Do you know how they took this fourteen year old boy and tried him as a man? I hope that Nathaniel Abraham don’t lose all hopes and dreams. Living in America if your black is hard it may seem. I’ve said this once I’ll say it again. Learning reality and truth is knowledge not sin. The Black man in America is very much under siege. Fighting drugs and disease in our country filled with knowledge and prestige. I’m just passing on a
