Gilkey's Book of Poems - Keith A Gilkey
A Black Cloud
Something which makes you feel sad
As your heart beats with pain
Troubles that make you mad
As you think you’re going insane
It startles you with desire
Every moment that you think
It feels like you’re on fire
Oh lord, don’t let me drink
It makes you want to die
The anger that you feel
Is it justice or is it a lie
Please, don’t let it be real
My soul feels in the dark
Of shadows I thought I’ve seen
While walking in the park
Oh no, it is just a dream
A Day in the Projects
It began the day I moved in
With my eyes I saw the fear
I never saw so much sin
But I knew it was very near
So I stepped out to take a walk
What I have seen I never would have thought
I kept my mouth closed and I didn’t talk
If I had ran, I knew I would have fought
For this life would make you cry
The people here are very mad
I had to leave before I’d die
I didn’t know this place was that bad
But there is so much anger and so much hate
I left this place as I felt the pain
While driving so fast, I hit the gate
Then I stopped and thought, was I insane
A Dream beyond the Stars
A dream beyond the stars is like a shadow of light in the dark where spirits dance through the night and angels fly through the park
Where starlight trickles full and bright
A dream beyond the stars is like a bouquet of roses floating through space
And a flow of atoms whistling with energy
Where the waves of life hit upon my face
A spawn of whales fleeing with savagery
A dream beyond the stars is like having wine in the moonlight
Or taking a bath in a river of streams
Like sitting by the sea on a windy night
Or seeing falling leaves on a midnight full of dreams
A Forbidden Mistake
I ponder why my life is this way
Then I remembered that weary time in May
When I had done the most horrible thing that day
For it is so forbidden I can’t say
So I pray to God and cry
Then I say I don’t know why
But ask for forgiveness and beg that he will try
As I raise my head up to the sky
For now, I know it is time
That I must pay for this crime
Before I go pass my prime
Even though I will lose every dime
Only I can be the blame
So I must hold my head down in shame
For what I have done was not a game
So when he calls,
