The Heavens Glimpses of Your Eternal Home - Jimmy R Singleton
Chapter 1
Are you prepared for Heaven?
We should be preparing every day for our eternal life in Heaven. God loves you, and His desire is for everyone to receive salvation. You are never too young or too old to start this journey. Ephesians 5:15-16 says, Be careful how you live, not as unwise men, but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
One thing is certain in our lifetime; we are all going to die! As David says in Psalms 31:15 My times are in your hands.
We should prepare like every day might be our last day here on earth. God takes us on His time, not ours.
Peter said that Jesus’ death was at the precise moment it was to happen and determined by God. In Ephesians 1:11, Paul wrote, In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will…
The one and only way to become saved is through Jesus Christ, and to trust in Him as your Lord and Savior!
What Do People Think About Heaven?
I have been going to church most of my life. Most of the churches I attended did a great job of telling us how to become saved and have eternal life in heaven, but they never go into details about what life will be like in Heaven.
I have always thought Heaven would be a place full of beauty and splendor, beautiful skies, rainbows and many vibrant colors like we have never experienced before. Angels will be floating on clouds above. Everyone will be singing and praising God.
Many people think Heaven is an endless church service, a never-ending sing-along in the sky with angels playing harps and singing Hymns, which goes on forever.
I wanted several different people from young children to older adults to share their thought about Heaven and life with Jesus in our eternal home.
Below is a list of random questions I asked people to answer.
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
I think some people hover and see what is happening below them, and other people open their eyes, and they are in heaven. I don’t know why some people have different experiences than others.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
"The Bible says there will be streets of Gold. I don’t really know. I think you will visualize clouds everywhere, houses in heaven. I want my house in heaven to have a source with a constant flow of Queso. It will be similar to earth, but cleaner, much brighter and people will be kinder.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Yes, Jesus is my Lord and savior. My spiritual belief if you ask Jesus in your heart, and believe he died on the cross for your sins, that you will be welcomed into heaven when you die.
- Katie, age 41
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
We may enter a spiritual realm as we die that the space/time continuum may come into play, where our spiritual being will stop existing or time stops until Jesus returns. For as the Bible states, Jesus will raise the dead and living to be with him; therefore, there must be a component in which the dead has to
stop existing if Jesus needs to raise them. As Jesus returns to raise the dead and living to be with him is when we will enter heaven or hell based upon Judgment.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
Heaven will have a physical presence because Jesus went to great effort to tell us of the physical nature of Heaven. Scriptures back that up, stating,
I am preparing a place and building a place for you. While here on earth, it is interesting how we are building homes and things made up with four walls. Then on the new earth, God is preparing an incredible structure that he will bring down from the heavens at the appropriate time that is described in detail in scriptures in Revelations.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior; I have believed in him since I was 8 years old and Baptized when I was 12 years old.
- Matt, age 40

What do you think Heaven will look like?
I know this sounds funny, but when my kids were little, they watched a movie called
The Land Before Time, the animated characters were always searching for a place called
the great valley that was their total goal in life. It was a land of total beauty, harmony, an abundance of food, happiness, nothing to fear, and most of all, where they would be reunited with all their loved ones. I remember that made such an impression on me that I said to myself that is what heaven will look like.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Yes, Jesus is my Lord and Savior
.
- Debbie, age 60
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
I truly believe that once we take our last breath, we will see Jesus. It will be good for some, bad for others. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
I picture Heaven to be indescribable in its beauty. Nothing like we’ve ever seen here on earth. Imagine the most beautiful place on earth, then think how much more beauty there will be in Heaven!!
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Yes, I do believe in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He died for you and me and anyone, ANYONE, who believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus said,
I am the way, the truth, and the life." NO MAN shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven without Him.
- Joey, age 62

Whenever I imagine heaven, I see a lot of white. Some of it is described in Revelation, like the pearly gates, a lot of shiny things.

Yes! Jesus is my Lord and Savior.
- Rebecca age 17
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?

What do you think Heaven will look like?
I think it will be the most blissful experience ever! The most beautiful place you could imagine and every incredible moment in your life will be relived. It will be complete bliss.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Yes!!
- Amanda, age 32
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
I believe what the Bible says that your spirit and souls go to Heaven and the Pearly Gates. Then you go to the Book of Life and see Peter.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
Scripture says there is a lot of singing and a lot of praising God. It will be Utopia at the same time you love everyone. It is the way God intended the earth to be originally. It is a perfect version of what we experienced on earth, but many times more than what we had here on earth.
I asked Andrew who he thought would be the first person to greet him in heaven. Andrew said, I don’t know.
I told him I think your dad will be the first person to greet you when your spirit and soul arrives in heaven. Andrew said, I hope so that would be awesome!
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior? Yes!!
- Andrew, age 38
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
First comes judgment day… where we are separated by God’s criteria. As a Christ-follower, I am confident of my place in the kingdom of Heaven following judgment. As to how that will be experienced, I think that concepts like time and space may not apply. I certainly hope there is no waiting room while the old Earth spins out its remaining days.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
Scripture gives us solid insight into the experience of Heaven; no pain or tears, eternal life, marriage is no more and the old is forgotten. We get what seems to be like metaphors to describe Heaven itself. Perhaps our language is simply incapable of capturing the concept. We had this discussion in small group last year…Is it a house with many rooms? Is it a lush new land of plenty? Is it a never-ending feast at the Lords’ table? What does it mean that we’ll need no light, as all light will be provided by the Lord? I don’t know what Heaven will look like, but strangely I am not concerned about it at all. I will experience it when I am there.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior? Yes- Baptist
What will you do while on New Earth?
It will be so different from our current frame of reference… perhaps singing praise instead of sitting on Skype calls? Our current activities are driven by needs that will be permanently met. Our flesh-driven selfishness will be gone. I will simply do God’s will.
- Matt, age 46
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
I don’t believe there are levels of Heaven, and we don’t look at New Earth as separate from Heaven.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Because I am a believer in Jesus Christ and that he died for my sins, I will go to heaven where a place has been prepared for me.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
No one really knows, and I will only know once I get there. But if pushed on it, it will be much like the Earth with beautiful gardens, lakes and rivers. It won’t have the pollution or other problems created by man.
- Carmen, age 44
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
It goes up to Heaven with God.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
I don’t really know. I think it will be really pretty. It will have a golden glow to it. It will be like we are walking on clouds.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
Depends on what’s there. If there are lions, I want to go sit with the lions. And I want to go say hello and meet God.
- Liz, age 13
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
You go to Heaven where you go through judgment. If you are a believer, you are sent into Heaven. If you are not, you are sent to Hell.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
It’s impossible to know what Heaven will look like exactly. I do believe that it will be full of peace and happiness. The people in Heaven will all be believers worshiping God.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
Yes, Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior
- Abby, age 15
What happens to your spirit and soul when you take your last breath here on earth?
Depending on whether or not you’ve given your life to God, they would go to Heaven where you will have eternal life, or you will go to Hell.
What do you think Heaven will look like?
It will be similar to the Garden of Eden, where we as humans began our existence.
Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?
I believe that God created us and wants a relationship with us, which is why he sent his Son, Jesus, to teach us and eventually die on the cross for our sins. Yes, Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
- Gabe, age 17
The Love of the Father
The single most important thing we all must do as Christians is to develop a strong personal relationship with God, our Father in heaven!
You can go to church every Sunday, do good deeds to help others, and all the other things that we are required to do as Christians. But none of that matters if you don’t develop that one on one personal relationship with God our heavenly father daily. God is truly amazing; he loves all of us and wants the best for us in all aspects of our life. Through God, we are given a Savior and a Father.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
(John 3:16-17)
