Daughters of the Queen - Deatra Handy

    Preface

This journey began in 2009, but I don’t remember exactly how. I feel as though one day I woke up, God gave me an assignment, and I just acted in obedience. When the Holy Spirit spoke, I would write. Sometimes waking up during the night, God would give me a word. I wrote and went back to sleep. When I awakened, I would read the words that were written with no memory of intentionality.

Therefore, I would like to acknowledge the Holy Spirit for His presence and anointing that gave life to the words that preceded out of the mouth of God.

Daughters of the Queen teaches that each of us has a God-given purpose; therefore, the time of preparation is crucial to the calling on your life.

Esther’s calling was tied to her relationship with her king. Therefore, Daughters of the Queen is also a book about relationships and the importance of being wise and discerning, so you are not distracted by people counterproductive to God’s plan.

The words in this book are written to equip you to be prepared for your calling by being confident in your gifts and talents with the understanding that you are chosen for such a time as this.

The principles that Esther lived by will strengthen your faith and inspire you to trust in God. The relationship rules will give you the daring to walk in confidence and boldness.

This is your practical girlfriends’ guide to empower you to be your very best and help you understand the fullness of God’s love for you. Daughters, you are chosen for such a time as this! It’s your time.

    Acknowledgments

I would like to thank my pastor, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer, and his beautiful wife Togetta, for thirty-three years of teaching the pure unadulterated Word of God saturated with faith and being a living example of dreaming big, trusting God, loving God, and keeping a praise on my lips.

I would like to thank the Trinity Broadcasting Network for allowing the world to experience the preaching and teaching ministries of Joyce Myers, Creflo Dollar, Joel Osteen, and Bishop T. D. Jakes along with Dr. Fred Price. I thank God for each individual anointing that has fed my spirit for decades.

God has graced my life with a loving family and wonderful friends whose value is greater than silver and gold. To the three women who I have called mom—Lizzie Walls, Irene Perkins, and Mary Sue Handy, words cannot express my gratitude for your contribution to my life.

William Lavell Handy Sr., aka Bill, was the most influential person in my life. He was so regal and eloquent. He treated me like I was a princess, but he tempered it with reminding me that everyone is God’s special creation, and he treated everyone with kindness and respect. He taught me so many proverbs like, Excuses are tools are of incompetence that build monuments of nothing, Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today, and A coward dies a thousand deaths but a brave man only dies once to name a few. He was wise, and he loved God. I’m stronger. I’m wiser. I’m better because of my Dad.

Finally, I would like to give a shout out to my children Tiffany Mixon, Sparkle Mixon, and Donald Mixon Jr., who have been a source of joy, pride, and unconditional love. And my granddaughter, Kennedy, who is my manager. She is my inheritance, and I thank God for her every day.

    Introduction

The Book of Esther began with the death of her parents. She was being raised by her older cousin, Mordecai, who served in the Persian monarch’s palace. The ruler at that time was King Xerxes, also known as Ahasuerus.

One day, the king gave a great feast in the palace to show off all his riches to the princes. After they were all merry with wine, the king sent for his queen to flaunt her beauty while she wore the royal crown. When Queen Vashti refused to appear, the king was extremely angry and sought counsel from his advisers, who recommended that she be removed at once. Therefore the king dethroned her because she refused to do as he had commanded.

After the exile of Vashti, the king looked for a new queen amongst the most beautiful virgins in the land. There was a young girl named Esther who was an orphan. She was one of the many chosen as a candidate to become the new queen.

Each girl went through a period of purification and preparation where she bathed in oils and perfumes for months before she could be presented to the king. The one girl chosen by the king would become his new queen.

Esther found favor with Hegai, the eunuch who oversaw the cleansing process and everyone else that looked upon her. Because of Esther’s favor with Hegai, he showed her great kindness and quickly gave her the things she needed for her purification as well as seven maids out of the king’s house and the best place within the house of women.

Hegai also coached Esther, and she followed his instruction. Every girl had the opportunity to go before the king, hoping to be chosen, but once King Xerxes saw Esther, it was love at first sight for him. So, he crowned her as his new queen to sit next to him on his throne.

Mordecai and Esther were both Jews, but Mordecai had instructed Esther not to tell anyone of her ancestry, and she obeyed him.

One day, while Mordecai sat at the king’s gate to watch over Esther, he overheard a plot to kill the king. Mordecai told Esther, then she told the king’s authorities, and the men were found and hung.

There was a powerful man named Haman, who was second in command to the king.

When Haman walked by, everyone bowed to him, except Mordecai wouldn’t bow because he was a Jew, and the Jews did not bow to anyone but God. Haman became so angry with Mordecai that he tricked the king into signing a proclamation to have all the Jews killed. Mordecai told
