    PROLOGUE

    July 6, 2017

    My paws were hitting the ground, I was moving fast, I could feel the atmosphere around me, my vision was so much more perfect than they were for years, I could hear everything around me. I could hear them, see them, feel them panicking. They were going where the party was.

    HELP! Tessa screamed, still running. A moment later, I tackled her to the ground, she screamed louder, I growled at her.

    What's going on? Distant voices were wondering. People were approaching. Tessa's family was nowhere to be seen.

    Please, don't hurt me— she pleaded and I growled louder. Suddenly I was thrown off her, I was floating in the air. I looked at the male Minder whose name was Justin, he had blond hair and green eyes. I growled at him.

    I'm going to put you down and when I do, you will  leave and won't hurt anyone. Justin said. A moment later, I was down. Tessa started to walk away to the others, I could not let her go...I tackled her down once again and bit her.

    "Aah!!" Tessa screamed.

    Stop! One of Tessa's friends commanded and electrified me. That made me angrier. I advanced her, I was ready to attack her when Nate appeared in front of me. I stopped cold, he glanced at me, he recognized me, he knew it was me.

    Belle, he whispered softly. His voice calmed me a little bit.

    A-hoo! We all heard. The Wolf-Shifters were approaching, they were coming for me. A few seconds later, they were all here. They all gazed at me in wonder, lost for words, they all approached me, formed a circle around me and howled once again. Tia appeared as herself, she glared at Nate.

    You can leave now, we've got this. She told him.

    I want to stay with her, Nate said.

    The last thing Rosabelle wants right now is your presence, Tia said. I saw Tessa approaching Nate.

    Nate, it's best if you stay away from her. Tessa said. That was exactly what she wanted, she was responsible for all of this. My whole body was shaking. I looked at Tessa, she was smiling. I growled maliciously at her.

    Belle, Nate advanced me and I quickly took steps back. It was like my body was refusing to be near him. He understood.

    Let's go, Tia said and ran. The Wolf-Shifters followed her, I knew I needed to follow them. I looked at Nate and Tessa one last time before following Tia and the others.

    CHAPTER 1

    August 29, 2017—Present time

    I was in my backyard, sitting on the grass, my back was against his chest, my hair was getting stroked. I closed my eyes with pleasure, his hand felt so good. I opened my eyes and quickly glanced at Nate. I love your curls, he said.

    Thank you, I thanked him.

    Are you ready for school tomorrow? He asked. Tomorrow was going to be our first day of being seniors. I was excited and nervous.

    I guess.

    You guess? Nate questioned. What's wrong? He knew me well, something was indeed wrong with me.

    Nothing really, I lied.

    Tell me.

    I just have a bad feeling, that's all. I said.

    What do you mean?

    I feel like this school year is going to be terrible for me, I told him and it was the truth. I had a feeling.

    What do your visions say?

    I can't bring myself to look at them, I told him.

    Why not?

    I don't want to know.

    You have to look at them, Nate told me.

    I slowly turned around and faced him. His beautiful gray eyes were observing me. I'm afraid.

    You should not be.

    I know...I just have a bad feeling for the school year. I told him. He grabbed my hand, held it up to his lips, and softly kissed my knuckles. I smiled at him.

    This is our last year of high school, it needs to be fun. He said. He was right.

    You're right.

    Ain't I always? He asked and kissed me softly on the lips. He kissed me with so much gentleness like I was a piece of wet paper and could easily be torn apart. I placed my hand around his neck and deepened the kiss. After a few moments, we broke away. We gazed into each other's eyes.

    Your eyes are beautiful, I complimented.

    Yours too, especially when they glow, they are stunning. He said, melting my heart. Only he could do that.

    They only glow for you.

    I know, he smiled. He stared at the Backgammon game that was beside him. I had totally forgotten about that.

    Are we going to play or what?

    Yes, we are...unless you're scared of losing. He was defying me. I scoffed at him, he had a lot of nerves to say that.

    Me, losing? I laughed at his face. Please.

    Aren't you assertive? He said in a sarcastic tone.

    Of course I am, I said. I rarely lose against you and you rarely win against me. We both knew that.

    What? He feigned shock.

    It's a known fact, I told him. He gazed at me for a moment before he opened the board game. We arranged the game.

    We'll see who's going to win.

    Yes, we will.

    Just so you know, it's going to be me. Nate said. I looked at him like he was crazy, out of his mind.

    Sure. I was being sarcastic. He smiled at me.

    Roll.

    You know I don't roll first, I reminded him. He nodded and rolled, he got a 2. I laughed at him.

    Why are you laughing? He asked.

    Because you already lost. I said and rolled. I got an 8. I was going to start the game.

    You start first.

    A good start for me. I smiled and started the game.

    ~~~
    Looks like we have English together again— I said, showing Nate my schedule.
    Come on. We walked into English and sat together.
    Aah! We heard someone squeal. It was Samantha, she came and sat next to Nate. Hey, you two.
    Hey, Samantha. I greeted back. Nate ignored her presence. I hit him with my elbow.
    Samantha, He greeted. Samantha rolled her eyes at him.
    How was your weekend? Samantha asked me.
    It was okay, what about yours? I asked.
    Fantastic, she squealed. She was really hyper this morning.
    Do you always have to be hyper? Nate asked her.
    Nate, I scolded him.
    Sorry, I had three cups of coffee this morning. I could not sleep last night because I was excited for today, she told me. Lucky for her. I, on the other hand, was nervous. Something felt off, I was out of my mind.
    Kill me now, Nate mumbled under his breath and I laughed. He glanced over at me with an amused smile on his face.
    Why are you laughing, did I say something funny? Samantha asked, confused. Nate chuckled quietly.
    No, it's not that. I said.
    Then, why are you laughing?
    No reason, I told her.
    Mm, hmm. She hummed. I was about to protest when I felt Nate's hand on my tight, he was making circles with his fingers. I quickly pushed his hand away and glared playfully at him. He smiled at me.
    Stop smiling, I commanded.
    I can't. His smile widened. A few kids came in and took their seats. The teacher came in several minutes later.
    Good morning, class. He greeted us.
    Good morning, some of us greeted back.
    How was your summer? He asked.
    Good. We all responded automatically.
    Mine was amazing. The teacher, Mr. David, told us. We heard Samantha snickering. I quickly glanced at her, she looked amused and a bit disgusted.
    I'm sure it was, Samantha said out loud. We all looked at her, this could not be good, what was she doing? Today was the first day of school for heaven's sake. Samantha really needed to keep her mouth shut.
    What did you mean by that? The teacher asked. On the other hand, Mr. David needed to stop being curious all the time.
    Nothing.
    Is there anything you'd like to share? Mr. David asked. 'Please say no.' I silently prayed that she would say no.
    No.
    You had two months of summer vacation— Mr. David started —did you read any books during that time?
    Yes.
    We're listening, the teacher said.
    Samantha quickly looked around and cleared her throat. This could not be good. "During the summer, I read the whole series of Fifty Shades of Grey." Samantha dropped the bomb on us. Some of the ordinaries whistled.
    Okay, that will be enough. Mr. David quickly said.
    Don't you want to hear the other things I did? Samantha asked. She had a huge smile on her face.
    No, Samantha. We're good. The teacher answered for us.
    If you say so. Samantha smiled.
    The rest of the day went well. Like last year, Nate and I only had one class together, we had stayed at the library for lunch, sharing our food. I was currently in his room, we were sitting on his bed, he was playing with my ear. Nate, I whined his name. He knew well that my ears were sensitive.
    Do that thing with your ear again, he demanded.
    No.
    Please.
    You're going to flick it with your fingers like you always do, I told him. He really loved playing with my ears, especially my Wolf ears.
    I'll try not to do that. He gave me his word. I focused on my ear and it transformed. Nate chuckled softly and flicked it with his fingers. I could not help but laugh. I secretly loved it when he did that.
    Nate.
    I know you love it when I do that, he said and kissed my ear. And that. I turned my face toward him and caught his lips with mine. He pushed me on his bed, climbed on top of me, and kissed me again. I curled my fingers around his neck and kissed him with more hunger. My heart was pounding fast, faster now because I was a Wolf-Shifter. Your heart is beating so fast. He mumbled, still kissing me.
    Only for you, I mumbled. He broke away and gazed at me. His eyes glowed for a nanosecond, enough time for me to see it.
    I feel love for you, he told me. I stroked his cheek gently, he closed his eyes at my touch. He turned his face toward my palm and kissed it. My breath staggered. I really loved him, my love for him kept growing more every day.
    I feel love for you too, I told him. He smiled at me, pulled me toward him, so now I was sitting on his lap with my legs around him. He traced my lips with his fingers, knowing it tickled. I laughed heartily and he smiled knowingly. He flicked one of my ears with his other finger. He knew exactly how to make me crazy...crazy for him.
    What you do to me, he whispered softly.
    I can say the same thing about you, I said and kissed him fully on the lips. We were kissing each other with a lot of hunger, passion, desires, and love. We could not get enough of each other, we wanted more.
    I stopped kissing him on the lips and started laying soft kisses on his neck and shoulder. I was running my fingers through his hair, he was griping at my waist tightly. He was unaware that his Vampire strength was still stronger than mine. I did not care, I kissed him back hungrily, he placed his hands on my back and pulled me closer to him. A few of my bones broke.
    Aah, I groaned in pain.
    Are you okay? Nate asked.
    Yes.
    I'm sorry.
    Don't be, I told him and kissed him once again. A few seconds later, someone was calling me. I looked at the caller ID. It's my dad.
    Do you have to go? Nate asked.
    Yes. I said and quickly pecked him on the lips before going downstairs.
    Why do you have to go?
    I have a meeting.
    Can't you skip it? Nate asked.
    No, since I've transformed, I have to be in meetings. I told him. Especially now that I am officially second leader, I was a bit proud of myself. Nate wrapped his arms gently around me and kissed me.
    Be safe.
    Always, I assured him. He traced my back with his fingers.
    How's your back?
    It's healed...I'm officially a Wolf-Shifter now. I reminded him. I really have to go, I will see you later.
    Okay, he said and I left.
    We were in an empty field that was deserted, my dad was talking to us, there were about eighty-seven Wolf-Shifters around me and there were more to come. The meeting was interesting and a bit awkward—some Wolf-Shifters kept staring at me. We want to hear our second leader, A Wolf-Shifter said.
    Rosabelle, My dad called me. I got up and stood by his side. I gazed at the audience and cleared my throat.
    I'm Rosabelle, I introduced myself.
    Is it true that you're with a blood-sucker? Someone asked.
    No, it's not. I said truthfully.
    Yes, you are. His name is Nate. Allan said.
    He's not a blood-sucker, dumbass. I said. Tia giggled. If he was, he would have been a pure Vampire and not half.
    Every half Vampire eventually becomes pure, A Wolf-Shifter said. A lot of Wolf-Shifters nodded in agreement.
    Nate is not going to become a pure Vampire, I would know. I told them and it was the truth, except for I wasn't sure because I could not look at my drawings.
    Why, because you've been intimate with him. A girl snickered.
    My blood boiled, I slowly advanced her, she looked a bit intimidated. No, and if I was...it's none of your damn business. I spat at her.
    We don't want a leader who's screwing with someone who sucks blood for a living, she said and I pushed her.
    Her whole skeletal bones began to snap. A moment later, she was this huge wolf growling at me. I looked at my dad, he looked excited. Everyone was cheering.
    Shift, shift, shift. They chanted repeatedly at me.
    No, I backed away. I was not ready for a second time, I didn't think I could deal with the pain again, the suffering.
    Don't be a coward, someone said. My dad nodded at the twin brothers and they started whistling on their whistle. I was really angry now.
    Stop it, I yelled at them, but they ignored me.
    I overheard Tessa telling her friends that she and Vampire boy will get back together. Tim declared and I snapped.
    Aah!! I screamed as my bones kept breaking. Everyone cheered again. A minute later, I was a Wolf. Everyone stared at me open mouthed. They were all in awe. I had a minority of black and white fur, but for the majority, I was gray.
    She's a gray Wolf, someone breathed out. I stared at the person and was caught off guard when the Wolf-Shifter I had pushed tackled me to the ground and bit me on the shoulder. That was when the real fight began. She fought well, but I was better. I was faster and stronger. She was exhausting herself. She was losing and I was winning.
    I think that's enough. My dad announced, but I was not done with her. Rosabelle, STOP. Contain your anger. I quickly stopped and gazed at him.
    You lost, Maya. Tia laughed at her.
    Tia, do you have some spare clothes for Rosabelle? My dad asked.
    Yes. Tia confirmed and my dad nodded.
    Alright, this meeting is over. My dad declared. Tia nudged me to follow her. Her house was close. When we arrived, we went to her room.
    You know what to do, she said. Think of you as human. Several seconds later, I shifted back to my human self. I quickly put on the sweatpants and the shirt she handed me. How are you feeling?
    I'm really sore.
    Two more times and you won't be sore or feel pain anymore, she said.
    Can't wait.
    I'm so happy you beat Maya today. Tia smiled.
    I can tell.
    Everyone was rooting for you to win. She said and I remembered everyone cheering for me to shift.
    How come?
    No one likes her, she's the mean girl here. Tia informed me.
    I'm not sure the pack likes me either.
    You're our Leader's daughter, everyone loves your father, therefore they love you. She assured me.
    But?
    They don't like the idea of you and Nate being together, Tia said. I sighed loudly, Nate and I were Essence.
    They need to start.
    Why? Tia asked. I gazed at her.
    "A few months ago, I overheard my dad saying that Nate and I were Essence...I've seen Nate's eyes glow for a nanosecond.
    Are you sure?
    100%. I told her. Tia gazed at me for a moment.
    There's something you should know. She sounded urgent. All Wolf-Shifters meet their Essence when they are little kids, your parents were childhood best friends, Louis and I met when we were kids. She started and I gasped in disbelief.
    Nate and I were childhood best friends.
    And when your dad saw you two kissing, he panicked. Tia explained. That made so much more sense of why we had to move in the first place, but something did not add up.
    Why did we become neighbors again? I questioned.
    Destiny.
    Destiny?
    No one can truly run from their Essence, Tia said. There was a silence for a couple of seconds. I understand a tiny bit how you and Nate are Essence. She broke the silence. You're neither a pure Wolf-Shifter or Minder and he's neither pure Protector or Vampire. She said. It makes sense to me.
    Do you support Nate and I being together?
    Never.
    Why not?
    I'm a pure Wolf-Shifter, he has Vampire blood running through his veins, I can't help myself but hate him. She said truthfully.
    Okay.
    I'm sorry. I know you don't want to hear that but it's the truth. Tia apologized. She didn't have to, it was her instincts to hate him.
    No, it's fine. I assured her and she smiled at me.
    I know you told Maya that you and Nate have not been intimate, were you telling the truth? Tia asked. I quickly looked away.
    Nate and I have not gone that far into the intimacy she was referring. I simply told her. She blinked at me.
    But.
    We've done some things.
    Like what? Tia asked. She was crazy if she thought I could tell her.
    I can't tell you...sorry. I told her.
    Oh, I see. She said. Are you two planning on being officially intimate with each other anytime soon?
    I don't know, we've never talked about it. I told Tia. Have you and Louis done it?
    We're Essence, what do you think? She scoffed at me.
    I'll take that as a 'yes.' I said and she laughed. There was something I needed to ask her. My friend, Dylan told me that Vampires have a thing for drinking blood while they are having sex.
    Yes— Tia said in an unsure way —what about it?
    Nate and I are Essence, we are going to do it eventually.
    I know, she said in a disgusted tone.
    What will happen if he drinks my blood?
    You already know the answer to that, she said.
    Does it have to be this way? I asked.
    Half-Vampires can drink supernaturals' blood except Wolf-Shifters'. She reminded me. I was against that rule, deep down, I wanted Nate to bite me.
    What if I want him to? I asked. Tia stopped breathing for a second.
    Do you? She breathed out. I shrugged my shoulders. Do you want Nate to be without a head?
    No, of course not! I exclaimed.
    Make sure you tell him he can't drink your blood. Tia told me.
    What if I kept it a secret?
    We'll always know.
    How?
    We have senses, gray Wolf. She smiled at me. I gazed at her for a moment.
    Why is everyone shocked because I'm a gray Wolf? I asked Tia. There was absolutely nothing special about me being a gray wolf.
    Gray Wolves are rare.
    Like white Wolves and black Wolves? I asked.
    What books do you read? She gazed at me like I was crazy. White Wolves and black Wolves are very common.
    Really?
    I'm a black Wolf, Louis is a white Wolf. She told me. Gray Wolves are very rare for Wolf-Shifters...normal Wolves are more likely to be gray.
    Is there any significance of being a gray Wolf? I asked. What did I represent, what was my symbolism?
    No, your kind is just rare. She said. I smiled at the idea of being rare. Will you be available this Friday?
    No, Nate and I have plans. Tia scoffed softly at the mention of his name.
    Can you cancel your plans?
    Why would I do that?
    We're having a gathering this Friday and you have to be there, Tia said. It's going to be fun, it's more like a party.
    Can Nate come?
    Is he a Wolf-Shifter?
    Fine, I can't come. I told her. I was about to leave.
    You can bring the blood__Vampire. She quickly corrected herself. I smiled at her and left.
    My dad gave me a ride home and left to go do something. My mom wasn't home yet and I did not feel like staying home alone, I decided to go see Nate. I walked over to his house and knocked on the door. Nate was the one to open the door.
    How was it? Nate asked.
    Horrible.
    What happened?
    It's best if you don't know, I told him. I was walking to the sofa when he stopped me by placing a hand on my bitten shoulder. Pain surged through me and I flinched. He quickly dropped his hand.
    What's wrong? He asked. He sounded worried.
    Nothing, I quickly said. He pulled the strap of Tia's shirt to the side and gazed at my shoulder.
    What happened? He asked. His voice was clenched. Who did this to you?
    It's nothing.
    It doesn't look like nothing to me, Nate said.
    I got into a fight, I told him. He gazed at me with his mouth opened, shocked that I got into a physical fight.
    How?
    The Wolf-Shifters were against you and I being together, saying that you'll eventually become a pure Vampire. I told them I would know and this girl had the audacity to ask if it's because we are intimate with each other, which I denied. I stopped to take a deep breath.
    Is that all? Nate asked.
    She called you a bloodsucker. I pushed her, she shifted, everyone cheered for me to shift, and we fought. I finished, turning my back against him. He wrapped his arms around me, pulled me closer to him. He laid soft kisses on my shoulder, I felt so much better already.
    I don't want you to fight because of me, he told me. I turned my face toward him and gazed at him. He gazed back.
    I will always fight for you, I told him. He quickly turned me around and wrapped me into a hug. I hugged him back. He kissed my forehead affectionately, warming my heart. I love it when you do that.
    I know, he said and kissed me there again. I gazed up at him, admiring his beautiful features. I curled my fingers around his neck and kissed him. He kissed me back with so much hunger, desire...rage. I felt hot and steamy just by him kissing me like that. He placed his hand under my shirt and caressed my back. He stopped kissing me for a moment and gazed at me.
    What?
    Are you wearing any bra? He asked.
    No, I raised my eyebrows at him. They were torn like my previous clothes when I had transformed. Nate kissed me again. I ran my hands through his hair. The kiss was hot, it was hard for me to breathe. Nate bit my lower lip, making me moan. I quickly broke away. Let's go to your room. I suggested, pulling him to the direction of his bedroom.
    And do what? He asked, observing me.
    Casual things. I responded and he smiled, knowing well what I meant by that. We heard the sound of an engine. My mom's home.
    You have to go?
    Yes.
    I guess we'll do 'casual things' Friday.  Nate said. I almost forgot to tell him about the gathering.
    There's a gathering this Friday night and I was wondering if you would come with me. I told him.
    Are you crazy?
    No.
    They all hate me...you got into a fight because of me. He said and I shook my head at him.
    I don't care.
    Belle.
    I will get into one thousand fights for you, I told him and he smiled for a moment. He caressed my cheek in a caring way.
    But__
    You're my boyfriend. If I want to bring you with me to the gathering, I will. I firmly said.
    Okay, he said and I smiled.
    I have to go, I said. I was about to leave when Nate asked.
    Who won? He was asking about the fight.
    What do you think? I asked, smiling. I never lose. Which was a lie, but I felt the need to brag on this win.
    ~~~~

    Today, I woke up with a bad feeling, something was seriously wrong with me. I drove to school and met Samantha and Dylan at my locker. They were telling me something but I wasn't paying attention to anything they were saying. Rosabelle, Dylan snapped at me.

    Are you even paying attention to us? Samantha asked impatiently. She sounded a bit upset.

    What were you saying? I asked her.

    Nevermind, it was not important.

    Okay. I said, looking away. I saw Nate coming my way. Bye, you two. I left Samantha and Dylan to join Nate. He quickly pecked me on the lips, knowing I did not like a public display of attention.

    Good morning, Nate said in a husky voice. He sounded so sexy. I giggled softly at him, he stared admiringly at me. What?

    Nothing.

    Tell me.

    Your voice is really sexy this morning, I told him and he smiled. He raised my hand to his lips and kissed my knuckles softly while gazing at me. Gosh, that was hot, really hot.

    Do you want to go to the janitor's closet? I asked and winked playfully at him. He chuckled heartily.

    I would, but class is about to start. We made our way to class.

    Soon enough class started, Nate kept tracing the palm of my hand, which tickled.
